Advances in Economics Dynamics and Development: Economics and Complexity

The Graduate Program in Economic Development (PPGDE) at the Federal University of Parana (UFPR) and the ISIGrowth Project (European Union), are promoting the fourth edition of the international

seminar Advances in Economic Dynamics and Development: Economics and Complexity. This year’s meeting will count with the presence of researchers and Professors from several universities abroad and from Brazil in partnership with PPGDE’s Professors. The event is an opportunity for the academic and non-academic public to familiarize themselves with topics related to the field of economic development and complexity. The seminar will present theoretical, quantitative and computational approaches on the following economic issues: Development, Growth, Innovation, Structural Change, Micro and Macroeconomics Agent Based Modelling, Firm and Consumer Behaviour and Income Distribution.

Economics and Complexity

The fourth edition of Advances in Economics Dynamics and Development: Economics and Complexity continues to focus on the topic of Complexity and Economics, which has become an increasing and promising field of research in all areas of knowledge. New concepts, theories and methods are helping scientists and policy makers to improve and extend their comprehension of the real world.

In social science, especially in economics, the science of complexity is helping to gain access to the world of interactions among agents at different levels, connecting the micro behavior to macro consequences in new ways. For the first time in the history of science, computational methods allow for the exploration of the world of interaction among

agents, making visible a significant portion of reality that has been covered by the tunic of invisibility.

The economic development is full of complexities. It is a dynamic, cumulative, adaptive, heterogeneous, multi-level, diversified and evolutionary phenomenon that evolves continually and sometimes disruptively.

Lecture 6 Fitness on a Rugged Landscape: The Pseudo-NK Model for Complexity Marco Valente (L’Aquila-IT)

LSD: Laboratory for Simulation and Development. Research Workshop (RW): the RW section is an open section where participants can submit their projects or papers to be discussed and debated with the professors. The RW section is designed to help researchers and students to develop and improve their ideas aiming at producing publishable works. Those interested in presenting in the RW section must send a small project in PDF format to joaobasilio@ufpr.br until 28/10/2018. This section will be very informal, and all participants can take part of it. Researchers and students will have 15 minutes to present their ideas followed by discussion and suggestions.
