INTRODUCTION
ICIT (International Conference on Information Technology) is a premier international conference aimed at fostering high quality research work in the area of Information Technology. ICIT-08 is being jointly sponsored and organized by the Orissa Information Technology Society (http://www.oits.org) and the Xavier Institute of Management (http://www.ximb.ac.in) in technical cooperation with IEEE Computer Society (http://www.ieee.org) to be held at Bhubaneswar, India from 17-20 December 2008. At ICIT, researchers and practitioners from academia and industry all around the globe are invited to present their research findings on various topics related to Information Technology and its Applications.

As the General Co-Chairs of the International Conference on Information Technology – 2008 (ICIT-2008), we have the pleasure of welcoming you to this premier conference, which will be held at Bubaneswar, Orissa, famously know as temple city. Over the last ten years, ICIT has evolved as a high quality forum for scientist and engineers to present their latest research results, findings, and innovative ideas in the rapidly changing field of computing and information technology. The large number of paper submissions covering a much broader spectrum is a testimonial to the growing interest in this conference.
The prestige of a conference is mainly determined by the quality of its technical program. This year's program will live up to high expectations due to the careful selection by the Program Committee under the leadership of B. S. Panda and Abhaya Nayak, the Program Co-Chairs. They have spent long hours in putting together an excellent program and deserve a big applaud.
In addition to the paper presentations, ICIT-2008 features keynote lectures, invited talks, workshops, and panel discussions. It is with great pleasure that we welcome you to the 11 th International Conference on Information Technology (ICIT 2008) in Bhubaneswar, Orissa, India. ICIT is a premier international forum for presenting and debating high quality research results in the area of Information Technology. It provides a receptive environment for researchers, developers and practitioners, both from academia as well as from industry, to present their research findings on various topics related to Information Technology and its applications. ICIT 2008 consists of seven tracks: (1) Algorithms, (2) Architecture and Programming Systems, (3) Databases and Bioinformatics, (4) Wireless and On-chip Networks, (5) Software Engineering and Industry Applications, (6) Web Technology, and (7) Management Information Systems, of which the first two tracks are being introduced for the first time. IEEE Computer Society press is publishing the proceedings of ICIT 08.
We received a total of 135 submissions from all parts of the world. Out of these, after a rigorous peer-review process, we accepted 65 submissions for inclusion in the proceedings of the conference, 40 as regular papers, 15 as short papers, and 10 as poster papers. All submitted papers have undergone blind review by two to three reviewers from a strong team of reviewers and members of technical program committee that consists of leading researchers around the globe.
We thankfully acknowledge the substantial effort that the track chairs, dedicated members of the technical program committee, and additional reviewers have put in for the timely completion of the review process. We thank all the contributing authors for submitting their research findings to ICIT 2008. We congratulate all the authors of the accepted papers. To the authors whose submissions we could not accommodate, we wish all the best, and sincerely hope that they will submit their research findings to future ICITs. Patrick Doherty is a Professor of Computer Science at the Department of Computer and Information Sciences (IDA), Linkoping University, Sweden. He heads the Artificial Intelligence and Integrated Computer Systems Division at IDA. He serves as director of LinkLab, a research center for future aviation systems, which is a collaborative endeavor between Linkoping University and Saab Aero Systems. He is an ECCAI fellow and has previously served as president of SAIS, the Swedish Artificial Intelligence Society. He is also a member of the editorial board of the Artificial Intelligence Journal. His main areas of interest are knowledge representation, automated planning and intelligent autonomous systems. A major area of application is with Unmanned Aircraft Systems. His research group has won several international competitions pertaining to micro-air vehicles and to automated planning.
Unmanned Aircraft Systems - A Future Technology: Due to technological advances and increasing investment, interest in Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UASs) as a practical, deployable technological component in many civil applications is rapidly increasing and becoming a reality, as are their capabilities and availability. UAS platforms also offer a unique experimental environment for developing, integrating and experimenting with many artificial intelligence technologies such as automated planners, knowledge representation systems, chronicle recognition systems, etc. In this talk I will describe some of the work being pursued at Linkoping University, Sweden in this area. Focus will be placed on integration of artificial intelligence technologies in such systems in the context of civil and commercial applications. A number of UAS systems developed and deployed by our research group for sophisticated experimental application scenarios will be demonstrated. Use of UASs as support platforms for emergency services organizations will be highlighted

Professor Yang is a chair professor at University of Rhode Island and his research has been sponsored mainly by the National Science Foundation (NSF). He has authored and coauthored numerous technical articles in such journal as IEEE Transactions on Computers, IEEE Transaction on Parallel and Distributed Systems, IEEE Computer and Journal for Parallel and Distributed Computing, along with paper presented at International Symposium on Computer Architectures, International Symposium on High Performance Computer Architectures, International Conference on Parallel Processing, and International Conference on Internet Computing, etc. He holds several U.S. patents and has also contributed a number of chapters to books in the field of computer engineering. Graduate students who have graduated under his advice usually work in computer industry or research institutions as computer engineers, design architects, or research scientists. Dr. Yang has served as program chair, committee members for several professional conferences in the field and guest edited special issues for professional journals. He is an associate editor of IEEE Transaction on Parallel and Distributed Systems. He is an IEEE-Computer Society distinguished speaker of the year, (1996-99). A senior member of IEEE Computer Society and a member of ACM, his research interests are in: Computer Architectures, Parallel and Distributed Computing (software and hardware), Computer Performance Modeling and Simulation, Data Storage and I/O architectures, Computer Applications and Storage Networking (SAN, NAS, and LAN).
Data Protection and Recovery in the Information Age: Data reliability and recoverability have become increasingly important with the exponential growth of networked information services and continued digitalization. This talk will concentrate on data protection and recovery along the time dimension. After reviewing the existing technologies, several new approaches will be discussed as compared to existing technologies. A new hardware architecture based on disk arrays will be presented in detail along with several software designs for data protection and recovery. Emphasis will be given on continuous data protection (CDP) for important users' data. We will compare and

Prof. Chita R. DasDistinguished ProfessorDirector, High Performance Computing Lab (HPCL)Pennsylvania State University, College Station, USA
Prof. Das has been on the faculty at the Pennsylvania State University since 1986, and is currently Distinguished Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering. Prof. Das's primary research interests include computer architecture, parallel and distributed computing, cluster systems, processor management in multiprocessors, performance evaluation and fault-tolerant computing. He has published extensively in these areas. Of late, he is working on multi-core/SoC systems, Network-on-Chip (NoC) microarchitectures, Internet QoS, multimedia servers, and mobile computing. Prof. Das is a fellow of IEEE and has served on the editorial board of IEEE Transactions on Computers and IEEE Transactions on Parallel and Distributed Systems.
Designing Next Generation Cluster-based Data Centers: Clusters have emerged as the most cost-effective solution for designing high performance computing platforms as well as data centers for supporting a wide variety of scientific and Web-based applications. The critical nature of many applications, in particular Internet-based services, mandates that in addition to providing high and predictable performance, these servers should run (24X7) irrespective of inevitable failures. Furthermore, the energy consumption of these servers and the associated thermal problems have exacerbated to a point such that power and thermal-aware design has become a necessity.
In this talk, I will discuss several research challenges in designing high performance, energy-efficient, QoS capable, and dependable data centers and summarize some of our current efforts in these directions. In particular, the effectiveness of using a user-level communication mechanism, such as the InfiniBand Architecture (IBA), in designing such date centers will be

Pradosh MohapatraCisco Systems, USA
Pradosh Mohapatra is a senior technical leader in the high-end routing group at Cisco Systems, San Jose where he currently leads the architecture team looking at the high performance next generation router operating systems. An acknowledged expert on the BGP protocol, Pradosh was primarily responsible for the implementation of the L3VPNs and high availability on the Cisco core routers CRS-1 and C120 (the CRS-1 is the faster router in existence and Cisco's biggest product till date). He has successfully led numerous other projects within Cisco like L2VPN (VPLS/VPWS support) and Non-Stop-Routing (NSR). Previously he also worked on Network Security, Device drivers and Network Operating Systems. He has more than 12 years of experience in IP and MPLS technologies working on both design and implementation of routing protocols. An active participant at the IETF, Pradosh has authored and contributed to several IETF drafts and RFCs. He has also published in scholarly journals and conferences affiliated to the IEEE and the ACM and holds multiple patents in the Network Routing area. BGP Security: Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) is the core routing protocol of the Internet. It makes it possible for individual networks to connect to each other through exchange of routing information so that there is end-to-end connectivity in the Internet. A series of studies, experiments, and real incidents recently have however attracted attention to the topic of BGP security. Since the routing exchange is typically based on trust, a compromise on the Internet routing infrastructure is considered possible and worrisome. In this talk, we will discuss the routing security aspect of BGP. After a brief background into the BGP machinery, various ways to achieve the required level of security in BGP will be presented. We will focus on resource public key infrastructure (RPKI), a solution that is gaining momentum at the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF).

Travel to Bhubaneswar:Air: Indian Airlines and many private airlines fly on regular basis to Bhubaneswar. Bhubaneswar Airport is 3 km from the city centre and almost all the major cities are connected from here. Indian Airlines has flights to Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkotta, Delhi, Hyderabad, Visakhapatnam and Varanasi
Rail: Bhubaneswar also have good railway network connecting it to major cities of India Kolkatta, Puri, Bhubaneswar, Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad and Tirupati.
Road: The national highway no.5 touches this capital city. The main bus stand is at Barmunda, 8 km from the city centre. There are regular interstate bus services from the nearby towns and cities. Inter-state bus services operate daily in between Calcutta and Puri via Bhubaneswar and Bhubaneswar-Tata Nagar
Local Transport: Bhubaneswar State Transport operates regular buses between Bhubaneswar and Berhampur, Chilika, Konark, Puri, and other places. Taxis, auto-rickshaws, cycle-rickshaws and local bus services are available. Autos are also a main source of transport. Tourist taxis and deluxe buses are available on rent. The old bus stand in Unit II (off Rajpath) is mainly used for local services.
