bisque mugs using a variety of decorative methods. Each student

will create two mugs; one to keep and one to donate to the Cup of

Kindness project, a collaboration between the Rhein Center and

Lakeside Chautauqua to help end hunger in the local community.

Proceeds from the Cup of Kindness project will benefit the

Danbury Food Pantry. Donated decorated cups are available at the

Rhein Center throughout the summer for a suggested donation of

$10.00.

years Julia Cameron has been mentoring people to assist them in

their growth as creative individuals. Rev. Dee Baker has used

Cameron's methods to assist others in developing and deepening

be a discovery of our spirituality. It can unleash artistic expression

and open our eyes to the movement of God's Spirit among us.

Creativity supports us as problem solvers and effective

communicators in al kinds of ways. This week's participants will be

introduced to Julia Cameron's book The Artist's Way and will begin

a journaling process that is designed to wake us up to our creative

who have had some needle felting experience, although this is not

necessary. A brief overview of the tools and techniques of needle

felting will be provided.

scarf is a 2 day class, and it is perfect for beginner and intermediate

needle felters. The class will also provide a basic overview of the

history, process, techniques, and tools of needle felting.

Students in this stepping stone class will use scrap stained glass,

glass gems, and/or small shells to create a mosaic design which will

then be inlaid into wet mortar. The finished stone will be ready to

small milk bottles, square tissue boxes, paper plates, bowls and/or

oat meal containers. Each person will be able to choose among

bottle shakers, tambourines, mini guitars and drums for their

instrument. The instruments may the be decorated using acrylic

paints, markers, tape, construction paper and colorful stickers.The

second part of the session they will be using their instruments to

accompany their singing and songs with Mrs. Herzberg as she plays

the guitar. Songs could include "Old Dan Tucker," "Take Me Out

of the Bathtub," "He's Got the Whole World in His Hands'" "On

Top of Spaghetti," "The Three Little Fish" and other age

appropriate songs.

This class is designed for the older elementary school aged

child, teens, and adults. As coloring page designs have become all

the rage with adults, children are also using their parent's or

grandparent's books. Participants in this class will select from a

wide range of designs, a page which is to their liking. They will

color using colored pencils, markers or Gel pens. This finished

product will be glued to a paper towel roll and the ends will be

sealed after putting beans in their roll, to create a shaker for a hand

instrument.The remaining paert of the class will be spent singing

fun Lakeside appropriate tunes, using their instruments

accompanied by Mrs. Herzberg's guitar. Included in this song

repertoire could be "I've been Cleaning Up My Bedroom," "The

Unicorn Song," "Take Me Out to the Ballgame," He's Got the

Whole World in His Hands," "and "Old Suzanna" and others. This

class is sure to be great fun for all participating. Other instruments

are welcomed for the sing a long!

class.Using paper from Japan and paint from England, students will

paint an expressive watercolor by first tracing a pattern and then

adding powdered pigment and water to allow colors to mingle.

Additional details and matting will be added. Each day's class will

be a certain picture but students will choose their own colors to

make the painting unique. No painting or drawing experience is

needed.

Students will receive instructions and a brief demonstration on the

primary elements of sand sculpting. For the remainder of the

morning, the six Sandmen artists will work with and coach students

in groups of three/four in creating assigned sand sculptures. In the

afternoon, after returning from a one-hour lunch break, all of the

students will utilize their newfound skills to work alongside all of

the Sandmen on a massive sand sculpture that will tie in with and

incorporate the smaller sand sculptures that the smaller groups will

have created in the morning. Near the end of the day, the entire

class will pose together for official photos with their unique work of

sand art. Students will also be give the opportunity to pose

individually for any photos their families would like to take. The

sand sculpture will be left intact on the beach for all of Lakeside to

enjoy.

Bathtub," "He's Got the Whole World in His Hands'" "On Top of
