Adultery, Seduction, and the Unity of Ancient Greek Law Join us for the Fourth Annual Cal State Los Angeles Distinguished Visiting Lecture in Ancient History 7 PM on Wednesday, March 21, in Library Community Room N B131 David Phillips, Professor of Ancient Greek History at UCLA Professor Phillips’ publications include Polybius Book 1: A Commentary The Law of Ancient Athens Athenian Political Oratory: 16 Key Speeches The Cal State Los Angeles Distinguished Visiting Lectures in Ancient History began in AY 2014/15 with help from the California Lottery. These lectures were designed to bring outstanding scholars in ancient history to Cal State L.A. in order to give “The Classics” (i.e. ancient Mediterranean studies) an extra push at this university to combat their unfortunate reputation as elitist or “closed.” The following scholars have honored us in these Distinguished Visiting Lectures: AY 2014/15: Walter Scheidel of Stanford University AY 2015/16: Andrew Stewart of UC Berkeley AY 2016/17: Lawrence Tritle of Loyola Marymount University AY 2017/18: David Phillips, UCLA
