Adult Intermediate & Advanced ClassesWhen you’d like to take your musical skills to new levels, we have something for you!

Fantasias and CanzonasA class for recorders and strings (violin, viola, cello, viol) that explores the development of 17th century English polyphony. The music of Morely, Simpson, Lawes, Jenkins, and Purcell will be studied. While the music is not technically difficult, sight reading ability and working knowledge of C, G, F, D, and B-flat scales is required.

Trio SonatasA class for recorders, flutes, oboes, violins and cellos. The music of Telemann and Corelli will be the vehicle for exploring the particular challenges (and rewards!) of combining winds and strings. Modern pitch will be used (A=440). For string players, a Baroque bow is an asset but not required.

Chamber Music for Adults This course involves small ensemble coaching for pre-formed groups of strings, piano and wind instruments. Adult Recital GroupAre you an adult music student interested in performing, but are unsure where to start? If you want to hone your skills and practice performing in front of a friendly and supportive audience the VCM Adult Recital Group is for you!

Participants must be performers, but no one is required to perform at every recital. New members may observe once or twice before performing. After that, members perform only when they feel ready. In the interest of those who are not yet completely comfortable performing, friends, spouses and teachers are not invited to the performances.

Music Appreciation and Music HistoryThe VCM offers a range of classes for those interested in enhancing their appreciation and understanding of music. Whether you are an experienced player or simply an avid listener, we have something for you. Please register early to ensure your placement as class sizes are limited!

Introduction to Opera I: This course will explore the beginning of vocal composition, from 5th Century Gregorian chants through to Renaissance, Baroque and Classical operas and ending with the magic of Mozart. Come and discover where it all began for voice and opera and listen to some of the most beautiful music ever written!
