Tim Rushlow & His Big Bandwill provide the music for Donaldand Melania Trump’s first danceas president and first lady on Fri-day, Rushlow confirms to USATODAY.
The news made headlinesTuesday, but Rushlow has knownabout the gig since Dec. 23. “Thishas been in the works for awhile,” he says.
Rushlow, who switched gearsfrom his ’90s country act LittleTexas to swing jazz in recentyears, says it was The Apprenticemega-producer Mark Burnett
and his music supervisor who ap-proached him.
Entertainment for the comingweekend has been a bumpy un-veiling for Trump, whose inaugu-ral committee has struggled tobook A-list talent for the week-
end’s festivities.Jackie Evancho, a 16-year-old
classical crossover and pop singerwho placed second on America’sGot Talent in 2010, will performthe national anthem, and 3 DoorsDown, the Mormon Tabernacle

Rushlow was set to performThursday alongside Sam Mooreand country stars Lee Greenwoodand Toby Keith at the MakeAmerica Great Again! WelcomeCelebration.
He would not reveal the songthe Trumps have selected fortheir first dance at the FreedomBall (the largest of three Inaugu-ral Balls they’re likely to attend),but “I’m really excited to bringthis throwback, retro, 1965 BobbyDarin supper club experience toan Inaugural Ball,” he says.
His party line? Rushlow callshimself a “Constitutionalist” andsays he’s performing in hopes of“uniting our country,” adding that
he would have “absolutely”agreed to perform should HillaryClinton have won the election.
“It’s not like I have a neutralopinion” politically, he says. “It’smore that I want the best for ourcountry. ... We have to move for-ward. Let’s do this with class andwith grace.”
The crooner says he’s not wor-ried about the sort of backlashJennifer Holliday received. TheBroadway star initially confirmedan inaugural performance butbacked out after receiving heavycriticism. “For the record, I am ahuge Jennifer Holliday fan. ... Idon’t disrespect in any way herchoice to pull out,” says Rushlow.“She has that right and that’s OK.... From the beginning, I felt like,you know what, I need to do this.”
But he has yet to meet Trump.“I look forward to that,” saysRushlow.
