Overview of WSAA
The Water Services Association of Australia (WSAA) is the peak industry body representing
the urban water industry. Our members provide water and sewerage services to over 20
million customers in Australia and New Zealand and many of Australia's largest industrial
and commercial enterprises.
Based around our vision of 'customer driven, enriching life', WSAA facilitates collaboration,
knowledge sharing, networking and cooperation within the urban water industry. We are
proud of the collegiate attitude of our members which has led to industry-wide approaches
to national water issues.
WSAA can demonstrate success in the standardisation of industry performance monitoring
and benchmarking, as well as many research outcomes of national significance. The WSAA
Executive retains strong links with policy makers and legislative bodies and their
influencers, to monitor emerging issues of importance to the urban water industry.
WSAA was formed in 1995 as a non-profit organisation to foster the exchange of information
between industry, government and the community, and to promote sustainable water
resource management.
The urban water industry is committed to anchoring its services to customers' values, and
to enrich communities where water services have broad economic, environmental and
social values. In line with this our main activities focus on four areas:
1. influencing national and state policies on the provision of urban water services and
sustainable water resource management
2. promoting debate on environmentally sustainable development and management of
water resources and the community health requirements of public water supplies
3. improving industry performance and establishing benchmarks and industry leading
practices for water service processes; and
4. fostering the exchange of information on education, training, research, water and
wastewater management and treatment and other matters of common interest.

6.2 Compliance with Performance Requirements
6.3 Material Requirements
6.3.1 PE100 Compound.
It is a requirement of AS/NZS 4129 that spigot end fittings for butt fusion are manufactured
from polyethylene compounds complying with AS/NZS 4131 and that sweep bends are to
be made from pipes complying with AS/NZS 4130.
Qenos Alkadyne 193B and Borouge BorSafe HE3490LS has been nominated by Adroit as
the applicable compounds used in the manufacture of the PE100 fittings. Both of these
compounds are included in POP 004 as AS/NZS 4131 compliant with current AS/NZS 4020
certification. Both compounds are also listed as complying with the temperature rerating
requirements described in POP013.
6.3.2 PE100 Pipe
Adroit has advised that PE100 pipe used in the manufacture of the sweep bends is supplied
by either Cromford Pipe Holdings, Iplex Pipelines, Australian Custom Pipes or Poly Pipe.
These suppliers have ISO Type 5 certification to AS/NZS 4130 and copies of certificates
are available from WSAA.
Where PE pipe is sourced from alternative pipe suppliers Adroit has undertaken to ensure
that the pipe has ISO Type 5 Product Certification to AS/NZS 4130 and a current WSAA
Appraisal.
6.3.3 Materials in Contact with Drinking Water.
It is a requirement of AS/NZS 4131 and AS 4130 that the compound and pipes respectively
satisfy the requirements of AS/NZS 4020 Testing of products for use in contact with drinking
water. Reference to PIPA POP004 indicates the two nominated compounds have current
test reports.
Additionally, Adroit Piping Systems has provided a copy of Australian Water Quality Centre
Report No 170643 for Taste of Water Extract and Cytotoxic Activity of Water Extract in
accordance with AS/NZS 4020 for Borouge HE3490LS PE100 material. Both tests were
passed at an exposure of 30,000 mm2 per litre.
6.3.4 Testing of reinforced reducing tees
CSIRO Report HHI 2892 Issued 9 Nov 2015 Testing and evaluation to AS/NZS 4129 of
DN200xDN110 polyethylene (PE) forged reducing tee, SDR11 has been provided detailing
the 80°C pressure testing of a DN200 x DN110 SDR11 forge moulded reinforced reducing
tee in accordance with the requirements of Table 6.3 of AS/NZS 4129. The test pressure
calculations are correct and the results indicate the product passed both the 165 h and 1000
h tests. The CSIRO laboratory is NATA accredited for this work. An Australian Certification
Services test report has been presented showing an assembly comprising a range of
products, including a reducing tee, butt-welded together passed the 100 h, 20°C and 12.4
MPa hoop stress pressure test.
6.3.5 Testing of reducing adaptors, end caps and flange adaptors.
CSIRO Report HHI 2891 Issued 9 Nov 2015 Testing and evaluation to AS/NZS 4129:2008
of DN250xDN200 reducing adaptor, DN200 end cap and DN250 flange adaptor, PE100
SDR11 has been provided detailing the 80°C pressure testing of an assembly comprising a
DN250 x DN200 reducing adaptor, DN200 end cap and a DN250 full face flange adaptor all
made from PE100 in SDR11. It is noted that SDR11 PE100 pipes are designated PN16.
Pressure testing was carried out for 165 h and 1000 h at 80°C as required by Table 6.3 of
AS/NZS 4129. It is confirmed the pressure calculations are correct and the results indicate
the product passed both the 165 h and 1000 h tests. The CSIRO laboratory is NATA
