We have ministers to the sick and homebound who are available to come once a week to pray and bring Communion to those indi-viduals who are unable to come to Church anymore.

GRIEF SUPPORT GROUP

If you are going through a loss, one of the best ways to heal is to share your grief with those who are going through a similar experience. St. Christopher’s Grief Ministry is offering a 5 week grief support group in the Marian Rm. of the Msgr. Allen Center starting on Tuesday, March 7th at 1:15pm-2:30pm. The group is open to anyone going through a significant loss, such as a death, divorce, having to put partner in care facility from Alzheimer’s.

Call Loretta at 264-5114 or email at [email protected] if you have questions. All are welcome but if possible, let us know if you plan to attend.

ASH WEDNESDAY

The season of Lent is fast approaching. It begins on Ash Wednesday, March 1st. Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of the Season of Lent. It is a season of penance, reflection, and fasting which prepares us for Christ's Resurrection on Easter Sunday, through which we attain redemption. The ashes symbolize the dust from which God made us. As the minister applies the ashes to a person's forehead, he/she speaks the words: "Repent and be-lieve in the Gospel.” The ashes are made from the blessed palms used in the Palm Sunday celebration of the previous year. The ashes are christened with Holy Water and are scented by exposure to incense. While the ashes symbolize penance and contrition, they are also a reminder that God is gracious and merciful to those who call on Him with repentant hearts. His Divine mercy is of utmost importance during the season of Lent, and the Church calls on us to seek that mercy during the entire Lenten season with reflection, pray-er and penance. Our Ash Wednesday Services will take place at the following times: Mass and Distribution of Ashes at 6:30, 8:30*, 10:00am, 12 noon and 7pm. Please note that our usual 8am Mass has been changed to 8:30am. 5pm Liturgy of the Word with Distribution of Ashes

Starting 2017 - Baptisms will take place the 2nd & 4th Saturday of the Month at 12:00pm Baptisms will also take place on the 3rd Sunday of the Month at the 12:30pm Mass.

The Parish office will be closed for Presidents Day on Monday, February 20th.

We will re-open on Tuesday Feb 21st. Have a safe and healthy holiday.

Please Note: There will be no 6:30am Mass on Monday February 20th

The readings today speak of the significance of re-spect/love for others in our interpersonal encounters. The basis for this comes from the belief that the Spir-it of God lies within each of us. Jesus makes it very clear that to focus our love on those who love us places us on the same moral level as the pagan. We are challenged to reach beyond, to even embrace our enemies and those who persecute us. It is not a difficult step in the 21st Century to reflect on this message as an expectation of Jesus for us, as individuals and a community, to extend ourselves to those who may not be a member of our comfortable communal community - the poor, the undocumented immigrant/refugee, the gay/lesbian couple, our Mus-lim brethren, - - . From Vatican II, "Decree of the Apostolate of the Laity", we are told: (5): "Christ's redemptive work, while concerned with the salvation of men, includes also the renewal of the whole temporal order. Hence the mission of the Church is not only to bring the message and grace of Christ to men but also to pene-trate and perfect the temporal order with the spirit of the Gospel. In fulfilling this mission of the Church, the Christian laity exercise their apostolate both in the Church and in the world, in both the spiritual and the temporal orders."; and, (14): "In loyalty to their country and in faithful fulfillment of their civic obli-gations, Catholics should feel themselves obliged to promote the true common good. Thus they should make the weight of their opinion felt in order that the civil authority may act with justice and that legisla-tion may conform to moral precepts and the common good." We are the body of Christ in today's world. What ac-tions does He want us to take to seek the common good and justice for all? Any Comments and input please direct them to: Doug Harper [email protected]
