This offer ends August 31, 2015. We have just over 60 days to raise $15,000. With your help, we will then receive another $15,000! We’ve made changes that will make your donation go further as we return to an all-volunteer team. 2015 can be our most productive year ever as we expand our programs to more shelters all across West Texas. In 2014, We Issued over $30,000 in Rebates to Increase Adoptions….More in 2015 Along with thousands of dollars in paid advertising each month, our rebate program at the Abilene Animal Shelter con- tinues to set adoption records. Our Salvation Adoption this spring sent 143 animals home in two days. The Abilene Animal Shelter ran out of adoptable animals before the event ended! The grand opening sale for the new wing (paid for in part by Rescue the Animals, SPCA) at the Abilene Animal Shelter found homes for 28 animals on the first day of the sale. The Abilene Animal Shelter is again setting new adoption records this spring. Adoption Center Opens….Again! Our Rescue the Animals, SPCA Adoption Center is back in business with an all-volunteer team. Starting June 20, our Adoption Center on South First will be open most Saturday afternoons for adoptions. See more details on our Adoption Center in the enclosed insert. We are Expanding to Become the SPCA for all of West Texas! We are expanding our very successful adoption programs to include shelters all over West Texas. One Stop Shopping From Eastland to the Permian Basin! We will have a new website up soon that will showcase current inventories from over 20 area shelters, all on our RescueTheAnimals.org site. Visitors can look at the inventories and then click through to any shelter they want to visit. More Advertising, More Rebates to Save Lives! We are expanding our advertising program for the Abilene Animal Shelter, and we are working on new advertising programs for area shelters. Since our media market covers such a large area, we hope to increase traffic at smaller shelters with advertising and promotions. More Certified Animal Abuse Investigators! Again this year we will spend about $4,000 on tuition for area law enforcement officers to come to Abilene for training as certified animal abuse investigators. More Spay/Neuter! Our new spay/neuter voucher program will save money and do more surgeries. San Antonio Tourists Head to Canada Three beautiful long-haired Dachshunds ran out of time at the San Antonio pound. They came to us for three weeks while waiting for a ride to Little Rock, Bardstown, and then on to Canada. “Like” us on Facebook and see more stories on our Facebook page Adoption Center, Rehab, Hideout, and Tourist Center Here are some of the first animals to arrive (many have already left) at our Rescue the Animals, SPCA Adoption Center on South First since we switched to our All-Volunteer Team. FUZZY ACL In Big Spring Fuzzy the terrier was a terrier with a problem when we received him from Big Spring. We did ACL surgery, and he is recovering at our Adoption Center rehab unit. Sweetwater Sweet Cherry Marooned in the Sweetwa- ter shelter Cherry’s chances were slim, and she needed eye surgery. Dr. Alan Bolt fixed her up, and she is waiting for a new home at our Adoption Center. Vicious Biscuit, Gravy, & Bacon It’s not like gluten free. These guys were “vicious” at the Animal Shelter, but calmed down quickly at our place before going on to a rescue group. Owner in Jail, Dog in the Animal Shelter No one responded to the certified letter when Festus landed at the Animal Shelter. Worse, he had a very large tumor and need surgery. Fortunately, the tumor was benign when Dr. Bolt removed it, and the gang at Dusty Puddles Dachshund Rescue in Lubbock took Festus. Capone & Dillinger “Hide Out” Two big tough standard Dachshunds were turned in at the Animal Shelter because they were escape artists. At our joint, they tore through two chain link kennels before being paroled to Dusty Puddles Rescue’s Dachshund half-way house. Comanche Crash! Six month-old Maltese Mickie was minding his business in Comanche when a passing car chased him around a tree, and through three yards before hitting him. Well…..Mickie is a little dramatic, and there were no eye witnesses. The X Rays did show an actual pelvic fracture, and Mickie came to us for medical care. Even better, he was able to do most of his rehab in his new home.

6th Rescued Dog All-Breed Reunion How To Register: This is the “Show” for every dog, not just the ones with papers! Come show off your rescued dog in the show ring before the Dachshund Races. Dress up and dress up your dog for our Costume Contest. Our judges will have lots of trophies to hand out, and we want your dog to take one home. We’re sure your dog will be a winner in at least one of these categories:

Register on race day at the event. Gates open at 5:00 pm. Any Dachshund can race!

All dogs must be current on shots and be on a leash at all times except when racing.

Each dog needs two humans! One person will be at the start

line and one at the finish line. The winner in each heat will move to the finals. The races should be finished by around 9:00 pm.

Pennsylvania Dachshund?A lady in Pennsylvania emailed asking us to send her a Dachshund, from the Irving, Texas, Animal Shelter. Sure, it’s just down the block. Our Lora Jones arranged for Pat Coniff and Betty Wensel Brooks to bring Charlie to Abilene, where we did all his vet work. Dusty Puddles took him to Lubbock, and after a long journey with lots of folks, Charlie arrived in Pennsylvania!
