Slide 4 - Vision and Mission

Slide notes

This home is the DCS Practice Model. The foundation of the home is the vision and mission of DCS.

Mission:

The Indiana Department of Child Services leads the state’s response to allegations of child abuse and neglect and facilitates child support payments. We

consider the needs and values of all we serve in our efforts to protect children while keeping families together whenever possible.

Vision:

Children will live in safe, healthy and supportive families and communities.

Slide 5 - Values

Slide notes

Values based on practice principles make up the “front door” of the Practice Model home. These practice principles govern actions in shaping policy,

hiring and training staff, resource development, contract service design, case management, supervision and continuous quality improvement.

The Indiana Department of Child Services, in collaboration with state and local partners, empowers our team to make decisions in the best interest of

every child in our care by embracing:

• Respect for all

• Racial justice

• Diversity and inclusion

• A culture of safety

• Continuous improvement

Slide 6 - Trust Based Relationships

Slide notes

The window through which we see families is made clear through trust-based relationships. Four traits are the center of trust-based relationships:

genuineness, empathy, respect, and professionalism. The benefits of using the core values include: improved communication, improved understanding,

and improved teamwork. These benefits happen throughout all levels of DCS including colleagues, team members, children and families. Roll-over each

of the four core values to learn more about each one.

of DCS. These skills are: Teaming, Engaging, Assessing, Planning, and Intervening. Roll-over each of the Practice Skills to learn more about each one.

Slide 8 - Parallel Process

Slide notes

The Parallel Process utilizes utilizing the same philosophies, principles and values through all levels of the organization - including our families,

children, staff, community partners, and providers.

Slide 9 - Organizational Goal

Slide notes

The goal of DCS is to fulfill its Mission, Vision and Values. In order to meet this goal, all of DCS needs to be engaged in the parallel process and

working as a team. That means everyone’s job in some way functions to serve the children and family’s achievement of safety, permanency, stability,

and well-being.

Slide 10 - Culture & Climate

Slide notes

Through the parallel process this model directs the actions of all members of DCS. Through the parallel process, the Practice Model also promotes a

positive culture and climate within the DCS Organization. The culture of an organization begins with a clear vision, mission and accompanying core

values. A climate of genuineness, respect, empathy, and professionalism for the families served, as well as for all employees must be embedded within

the everyday operation of the organization. Roll-over the two words to learn more about culture and climate.
