I AM ENGAGEDIn kindergarten Fridays are extra special. The children rotate through the three classrooms, experiencing small group and individual projects that include crafts, cooking, science experiments, and art. Students respond best when learning is dynamic. Each activity is selected to engage students in inquiry, discovery, investigation, and interpretation.
I AM INSPIREDEncouraging our students to look beyond themselves and to be aware of the world around them is perhaps the most important thing we do at Mayfield Junior School. Whether visiting the elderly at retirement homes or serving food at a homeless shelter, our Reach Out projects demonstrate the power of one and the wonders many hearts and hands can accomplish.
I AM CONFIDENTBeginning in kindergarten students have multiple opportunities for public speaking through classroom presentations, stage performances or video projects. These experiences build self-confidence, develop leadership skills and encourage individual talents.
I AM CREATIVEStudent-centered projects contribute to deeper learning with a focus on the value of collaboration, reflection and creativity. Students gain life skills such as perseverance, resilience and flexibility as they navigate process and presentation.
I AM PREPAREDA Mayfield Junior School education comes full circle when it is time to send our eighth graders off to high school and out into the world. Students graduate with the life skills and confidence to successfully navigate the challenges and opportunities ahead of them and to approach life with joy, compassion and wonder.
One constant that connects all the years at Mayfield Junior School is the thread of a “bright and joyful spirit.” We can hear it when the kids are around and parents can see it in the faces of their children. The fundamental belief that childhood, going to school and growing up should be a joyful experience is central to a Holy Child education.
