General InformationEvery year, Università Bocconi establishes themaximum number of students that can beadmitted to a given degree program. By doingso, the University guarantees the best possible

living and study conditions for students,allowing them to successfully complete theirdegrees and enter the job market. In theacademic year 2011-2012 there will be 21 class groups for the first year:

CalendarFor the a.y. 2011-2012, internationalapplicants can choose to apply for the

selection process in one of the followingsessions:

Admission RequirementsInternational applicants are admitted to theselection process (in any session), if theyobtain/have obtained a recognized non-Italianundergraduate degree by October 2011 (or inany case by the first exam session after thesummer break).

Elements of EvaluationThe selection process is based on the following:

•results of the GMAT or GRE tests (GRE isaccepted only for applicants who havespecified the MSc in Economic and SocialSciences or in Economics and Management ofInnovation and Technology programs as theirfirst or second choices);

•grade point average of undergraduate exams;•dossier evaluation by the Director of the

Master of Science program.

The dossier must include the following:•Summary of online application for admission;•Checklist of required documents complete

with color passport size photograph;•Submission of GMAT/GRE official score,

compulsory;•Motivation letter by the applicant;•The applicant’s curriculum vitae;•Student record including exams passed and

marks in the undergraduate program. Pleaseinclude a table explaining the grading systemused at the home university (which indicatesthe minimum and maximum achievablescores).

Please note that the January selection processis reserved for applicants with a GMAT scoreof 650 or higher. Applicants with a GMATscore of less than 650 will be evaluated fromthe subsequent sessions (also open forapplicants with a GMAT score of 650 orhigher). Only applicants who have expressedtheir first or second preference for the MSc inEconomic and Social Sciences (ESS in English,DES in Italian) or for the MSc in Economicsand Management of Innovation andTechnology (EMIT) may submit GRE testresults. The first session (January) is reservedfor applicants having GRE scores of at least760 on the quantitative section. Applicantswith a GRE quantitative score of less than 760will be evaluated starting with the subsequentsessions (also open to applicants with a GREquantitative score of 760 or higher).

Admission ProcessApplicants will be asked to fill out an onlineapplication form and provide the requireddocumentation by the dates indicated in thetable above. In order to apply for the selectionprocess, applicants are required to pay an

application fee of € 100. The application isconsidered valid once the Admissions Officehas received all the required supportingdocuments specified above, and the receipt ofpayment of the application fee.

Applicants will be asked to declare thefollowing:

•their first and second choice of Master ofScience Program; the second choice should beindicated as the program in which they wouldbe willing to enroll if, as a result of theirranking, they are not admitted to their firstchoice;

•the test they wish to submit for admission(GMAT or GRE);

•information related to university enrollment(Bachelor and/or Master of Science);

•language prerequisites.

The Admissions Office will confirm that theyhave received and checked all the requireddocuments in the “Communication fromBocconi”, space available on the onlineapplication. The results of the selection processwill be published on the Bocconi websiteaccording to the calendar above.For detailed information about the admissionsprocess, please go towww.unibocconi.eu/graduateadmission

Application FeeEach applicant is required to pay anapplication fee of € 100, following differentpayment methods:

•credit card: direct payment using the onlineprocedure (cards accepted: Visa – AmericanExpress – Mastercard);

•bank transfer: in the name of UniversitàBocconi, Banca Popolare di Sondrio – agenzia11 – Via Bocconi, 8 – 20136 Milano – IBAN:IT55 E056 9601 6100 0000 2000 X88. In thepayment arrangements indicate FREE OFCOMMISSION and in the “Purpose” sectionplease put “Application for admission toMaster of Science 2011” and the applicant’sname;

•postal note (for Italian residents only): postalaccount no. 478271 in the name of UniversitàBocconi – in the “Purpose” section please put“Application for admission to Master ofScience 2011” and the applicant’s name.

The application fee will not be reimbursed ifthe applicant decides to withdraw fromselection or if the applicant is not selected.

ScholarshipsApplicants interested in scholarships mustapply for such at the same time of applicationfor a Master of Science program.

Selection Results The results of the selection process will bepublished on the Bocconi website within onemonth after the application deadline. Validpersonal ID and Password entries, used tofinalize the admission application, are requiredto access the applicant’s online results. TheAdmissions Office will communicate theselection results and enrollment instructions toall applicants. The list of scholarship recipientswill be published shortly after (for moreinformation regarding this issue please see thecall for scholarship published online).

Enrollment ProcessUpon admission, applicants must confirm theirenrollment in the first year of the program bythe date indicated on the selection resultwebpage.The enrollment process involves the followingsteps:

•fill out the online enrollment form on theBocconi website;

•pay the € 2,000.00 advance of the firstinstallment of university tuition and fees;

•print the online enrollment summary and the“enrollment form”;

•finalize enrollment.

Online enrollment must be finalized at theAdmissions Office (September 2011) bysubmitting the enrollment form and bringingthe documents listed on the enrollmentsummary. Admitted graduates and final-yearstudents are enrolled with reserve. Enrollmentswill be confirmed upon verification that theapplicant has effectively completed theuniversity degree (with a recognizedqualification) by October 2011, uponverification by the Admissions Office that alldocumentation relating to the degree has beenreceived, in compliance with the requirementsof the Ministry of Education, University andResearch and the Ministry for Foreign Affairsfor enrollment at an Italian university andupon verification of language prerequisites. GMAT and GRE TestInternational applicants must present officialscores obtained from the GMAT test in orderto enter the selection process. GRE score canonly be presented by applicants with DES, ESSor EMIT expressed as a first or second choice.The GMAT (Graduate Management AdmissionTest) is an international standardized test heldin English. It is used by international businessschools and universities in graduate and post-experience program admissions. The test has

three sections, an analytical writingassessment, a section which tests quantitativereasoning, and one which tests verbal skills.Your score for the analytical writingassessment is not required for admission toBocconi. The quantitative section lasts 75minutes and includes 37 multiple-choicequestions that measure data sufficiency andproblem solving skills. The verbal section lasts75 minutes and includes 41 multiple-choicequestions which evaluate readingcomprehension, critical reasoning and sentencecorrection. For more information regardingthe GMAT test and test centers in your owncountry please consult http://www.gmac.com.The GRE (Graduate Record Examinations) testmeasures verbal reasoning, quantitativereasoning, critical thinking and analyticalwriting skills that are not related to any specificfield of study. For more information about it, please consulthttp://www.gre.org.Remember that in order to send your testscores to Bocconi, you need to provide theUniversity’s code, which are the following:GMAT: MGM -CS-39 and GRE: 0021. Howand when official scores are received should beverified as soon as possible in order to reducethe time between the test and thecommunication of the official score. Forapplicants that send their GMAT or GRE scorethrough Bocconi codes, note that the testresults must arrive at the Admissions Office bythe procedure deadlines.

Language PrerequisitesMeeting language prerequisites is alwaysrequired and assessed irrespective of the selectionmethod. Applicants must state the languageprerequisite they have when they submit theirapplication, and demonstrate it by the time ofenrollment finalization (September 2011).To apply for programs taught in English, it isnot necessary to prove any knowledge ofItalian language, but it is necessary todemonstrate English language knowledge atleast equal to B2 level of the Council ofEurope’s Common European Framework ofReference for Languages.To apply for programs taught in Italian, it iscompulsory to prove English languageknowledge at least equal to B1 level of theCouncil of Europe’s Common Europeanframework of Reference for Languages.Moreover, to apply for programs taught inItalian, it is necessary to demonstrate Italianlanguage knowledge at least equal to B2 levelof the Council of Europe’s Common EuropeanFramework of Reference for Languages.Please check our website for details aboutlanguage certificates recognized by UniversitàBocconi.

Entry VisasAll students residing in countries outside theEU are required to apply for a student visa.In order to obtain a student visa, admittedstudents must apply at the Italian Consulatein their country of origin, which will providethem with a list of the documents necessaryto get their visa (visa requirements vary foreach country and consulate). Please keep inmind that Italian authorities accept requestsfor student visas only until the end of May.In addition, remember that the AdmissionsLetter issued by Università Bocconi must bepresented in order to obtain a visa. We recommend students to apply for amultiple-entry Schengen visa if possible. For detailed informationwww.esteri.it/visti/index_eng.aspOnce in Italy, all international students will

have to obtain a “Permesso di Soggiorno”(Permit to Stay) in order to be allowed to livein Italy for more than 3 months.

Recognition of ExamsAdmitted applicants who have enrolled onlineand were already enrolled in another Master ofScience program at another university mayapply for the recognition of exams passedduring their post-graduate studies (up to amaximum of 30 credit points). This can bedone when finalizing enrollment by submittinga transfer request issued by the originaluniversity, along with a certificate stating theexams passed and the related study programs.Applicants with one or more transfer examsrecognized will still be admitted to the first yearof the program.
