WOMEN'S RETREAT - 4/15/16 - 4/17/16
YOU ARE INVITED to spend a relaxing, spiritually
insightful weekend with the women of our parish Friday
evening at 4:00 to Sunday noon, [April 15 - April 17,
2016] at St. Paul of the Cross Passionist Retreat &
Conference Center, 23333 Schoolcraft, Detroit,
MI 48223.
The retreat theme this year is “Encounter the Mercy of
God”. Suggested donation is less than a weekend at a
good motel, and the benefits are priceless! A private
room with bath add to your comfort.
For information, you may call Mary Ann Esper
(654-2758) or reservations, call the Retreat Center at
313-535-9563. You can also register online at
www.stpaulretreat.org.
Easter Easter is a time of great joy when we are reminded that
the Lord walks beside us on our journey of faith.
We witness Christ’s living presence in many ways, one
of which is through our support of our local communion
of faith through the Catholic Services Appeal. Our annu-
al CSA supports the Rite of Christian Initiation of
Adults, which brings new members into full communion
during the Easter Vigil. The CSA enables us to reveal
Christ’s presence not only to our sisters and brothers
with whom we share the Eucharist, but also to those who
do not know Christ.
Gifts to the CSA show that Christ is present and active
in our world. Indeed, He is risen today. Alleluia!
For more information about CSA-funded ministries,
programs, and services, please go to www.aod.org.

Easter Sunday Resurrection of the Lord
"But Peter got up and ran to the tomb." Peter was unique in this response to the news of Jesus' resurrection. The
other apostles disregarded the reports from the women who had seen the empty tomb and heard the angels because
"their story seemed like nonsense and they did not believe them." But Peter took action. He got up and ran to see the
evidence and "went home amazed at what had happened."
On this Easter day, we have a choice to make. We too have heard a remarkable report. We have been told that two
thousand years ago, a man named Jesus defeated death and rose from the grave. To many people in today's world,
this sounds like nonsense, just like it did when it first happened. Some would like to dismiss the story entirely as a
myth at best, or an outright lie at worst. Others try to spiritualize the miracle, suggesting that the Resurrection
narrative is a story that is meant to symbolize the power of God, but whether or not Jesus actually rose from the
dead is irrelevant. Finally, there are those who simply believe--those who, with Peter, make an act of faith and
choose to take the Gospel literally.
This of course is the Christian way. It was not the Crucifixion that brought confidence to the early followers of
Christ; it was the Resurrection. This momentous event has always made all the difference! We will only water down
our faith if we reduce Easter to anything other than a true miracle. But to accept it as such will bolster our faith. As
St. Paul wrote in the Epistle to the Romans, "Just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we
too might live in newness of life." This Easter, may we experience the great joy of new life in the risen Christ.
Priestly Vocations: Discernment Overnight April 15-16, 2016
A Discernment Overnight offers a young high school man (Freshman-Junior in high school) a unique opportunity to
experience the seminary and learn about the priesthood. We host two Overnights each academic year and you’re
encouraged to attend both. There’s no better way to learn about life in the seminary then from a current seminarian!
You’ll hear presentations, pray, eat and recreate with them. There is also time for quiet reflection. Take the “leap of
faith” and consider and Overnight visit at Sacred Heart Seminary so you can better discern your vocation.
