Nature of the WorkAs technology continues to expand in offices, the role of the office professional has greatly evolved. Office automation and organizational restructuring have led administrative assistants and office professionals to assume a wider range of new responsibilities. Office professionals are responsible for a variety of administrative and clerical duties necessary to efficiently manage an organization. Currently they perform fewer clerical tasks but assume more office management duties, such as scheduling office operations and training other clerical workers. These clerical workers have assumed many of the tasks traditionally assigned to administrative assistants such as composing correspondence, managing databases, creating spreadsheets, and using word processing.
