Energy Efficient Compact Fluorescent & Metal Halide DownlightsThe ADL CFL & MH downlights are designed specifically for use with energy efficient lamps. For many years 50w low voltage halogen downlights have been used for general lighting and display lighting. However, the halogen lamp is not the most energy efficient option. While LED's are growing in popularity for these types of installations they are often still an expensive option, while compact fluorescent and metal halide lamps offer energy savings that will result in less green house gas emissions while providing a lower cost alternative to many LED options. The Australian Building Code section J6 has also now specified maximum lamp power density in watts/ square metre, and minimum light source efficiency in lumens/watt.The following chart demonstrates the efficiency of lamps in lumens per watt. This clearly shows that fluorescent and metal halide lamps produce 3 to 4 times the amount of light for each watt of power compared to a low voltage halogen lamp.

Maintenance is also greatly reduced with the use of both fluorescent and metal halide lamps with an average life of 10,000 hours. The fluorescent and metal halide lamps do require purpose made light fittings to optimise the lamps' superior performance. ELS are pleased to offer the following solutions.
