The applications of helical gear There are many different types of helical gears which can be used in different places. Therefore, the application of helical gears is diverse, and we can not give a specific list.

The applications of helical gearThe application of helical gears is quite large. For example, they can be used in Fertilizer industry, Railway industry, Printing industry, and Earth moving industry, etc. Except for these industries, there are also many others where helical gears can play a rather important role.

The applications of helical gear Let us see a few of the applications of helical gears.

The applications of helical gearFirst, the earth moving industry : In our society especially in cities, there are always a lot of constructions. In order to fulfill these tasks, equipment and machinery are necessary. These equipments require the need of helical gears. For instance, helical gears like spur, helical, and planetary form an integral part of the machinery and vehicles used in the earth moving industry.

The applications of helical gearSecond, the Railway industry : Railways are indispensable in our society. In railways, there is a wide range of helical gears andhelical gearequipments used in different railway applications. For the special requirements of the railways, the specialized helical gears are brought into use. They are applied to achieve the certain purposes.

The applications of helical gear

The applications of helical gearThird, the power industry: Power industry needs many types of mechanical items. And of course, helical gears are also necessary components. In every process of power generation and power transmission, helical gear power transmission equipments have been used for a long period of timeThe applications of helical gearHelical gear equipments support all different aspects of the power generation process.helical gearperipherals are used in different processes of power generation, like in the gas turbine electric power generation, coal-power electrical plants and so on.

The applications of helical gearAdvantages Of Helical GearsHelical cut gears have many benefits over these straight cut gears.

Let us see a few of the advantages of helical gears.Tooth Loading :Decreased tooth loading is a chief advantage of helical gears.On a spur cut gear, each tooth has to carry the torque. In a helical gear design, four or five teeth are in constant contact, so the torque is spread out.This is why helical cut gears are used in automotive transmissions.Backlash Reduction:"Backlash" is another name for the gap in between the teeth of adjoining gears. When the gears are running, vibration can set in because of the backlash. This vibration is called "chattering," because the gears pound against each other, making a chattering noise.Because more than one tooth is in contact with its adjoining gear at all times, helical cut gears have reduced or no backlash.Shaft Alignment:The shafts must be perfectly parallel for the straight cut gears to mesh smoothly. If a machine design calls for perpendicular shafts, special straight cut gears, called bevel gears, must be used. For the same perpendicular shaft configuration, helical cut gears will work directly, since adjoining gears mesh equally well if the shafts are parallel or perpendicular to each other.Disadvantage of Helical GearsBiggest disadvantage of using helical gears is a resultant thrust along the axis of the gear, which needs to be accommodated by appropriate thrust bearings, and a greater degree of sliding friction between the meshing teeth, often addressed with additives in the lubricant.

Disadvantage of Helical GearsFor a crossed configuration the gears must have the same pressure angle and normal pitch, however the helix angle and handedness can be different.The relationship between the two shafts is actually defined by the helix angle(s) of the two shafts and the handedness, as defined:

E = 1 + 2 for gears of the same handednessE = 1 2 for gears of opposite handedness

Disadvantage of Helical GearsWhere is the helix angle for the gear. The crossed configuration is less mechanically sound because there is only a point contact between the gears, whereas in the parallel configuration there is a line contact.Quite commonly helical gears are used with the helix angle of one having the negative of the helix angle of the other; such a pair might also be referred to as having a right-handed helix and a left-handed helix of equal angles.

Formative number of teeth for helical gearThe formative or equivalent number of teeth for a helical gear may be defined as the number of teeth that can be generated on the surface of a cylinder having a radius equal to the radius of curvature at a point at the tip of the minor axis of an ellipse obtained by taking a section of the gear in the normal plane. Mathematically, ZE = Z / cos 3. Z = Actual number of teeth on a helical gear and = helix angle.Formative number of teeth for helical gear
