Global Trends in AI Education

We are on the verge of the Fourth Industrial Revolution. AI technology has become the cornerstone of the Industrial 4.0 Revolution, exerting a profound impact on our daily life, learning and work. All countries are taking the initiative to put forward education policies involving AI development.

As the essential foundation of AI, programming has been incorporated into the K12 curriculum in various countries since 2014, becoming one of the most important subjects in their educational systems.

Australia has included AI programming into the national syllabus.Students begin to acquire programming logic at the age of 10, and can actually carry out programming at around 12 years old.

Finland has implemented the new National Core Curriculum Outline, which incorporates programming into the primary school syllabus and requires schools to open programming courses from Grade 1.

The State Council of China has promulgated the Notice of the New Generation Artificial Intelligence Development Plan.

Singapore has included programming into primary and secondary school exams. This reflects the trend of countries implementing and developing STEAM education policies, as well as developing programming education for the young generation. This goes in line with the times and follows the need to foster talents for the forthcoming AI era, therefore maintaining their future human capital competitiveness.

US President Donald Trump has officially signed American AI Initiative administrative order. To prioritize the development of AI, the US government has offered help and support accordingly, such as expanding the authority of relevant researchers to use government data.

The UK Ministry of Education has officially included programming as a compulsory course in the UK National Curriculum, where it is stipulated that students aged 5-7 need to master programming skill through computer courses.

The White House has set up a committee on artificial intelligence and machine learning to coordinate actions taken by people from all walks of life in the field of artificial intelligence in the US and to explore the formulation of policies and laws related to artificial intelligence.

South Korea has planned to incorporate programming into the education syllabus, and popularize programming education from Grade 1 of primary school to Grade 3 of middle school in 2020.

The British government has issued a report on artificial intelligence, hoping to enhance the overall national strength with the innovative advantages of artificial intelligence.

The Ministry of Education of Japan has issued a new edition of the Interpretation of Learning Guidelines for the New Semester, which proposed that Japanese primary and secondary schools should provide computer programming courses from 2020 to 2021 to cultivate future AI talent.

The Ministry of Education of China has issued a notification on the Action Plan for Artificial Intelligence Innovation in Colleges and Universities to guide colleges and universities to continuously improve their capabilities of scientific and technological innovation, talent training and international cooperation and exchange in AI with the aim of providing strategic support for the development of a new generation of AI technologies in China.

The UBTECH Robotics Competition, which was initiated by UBTECH, aims to promote the development of AI education through robotics competitions. Walker uses its own visual and force perceptions to obtain the position, posture and force feedback of an external moving object. Relying on the force control algorithm, Walker has the sensation of the "force" so as not to break or crush the object.

Walker can detect and recognize corresponding faces and objects in a complex background environment. It uses human body data such as gender, age, identity, mood, and posture, as well as object data that include location, category and point of operation.

Walker has open, flexible, multiple and convenient smart home interfaces that can be customized to help users control common home devices such as lights, electrical appliances and sockets autonomously, which makes your home more intelligent, safe, convenient and comfortable.

When subjected to an external impact, Walker can protect itself from harm. This enables Walker to better adapt to external uncertainties and maintain its own safety and reliability at work.

Walker has a pair of arms that have 7 degrees of freedom. When one arm stretches, it can bear a load of 1.5 kg. When two arms work together, it can lift a load up to 10 kg. In addition to lifting loads, it can also grab objects, play the piano and draw pictures.

UBTECH has independently developed U-SLAM, a positioning and navigation system based on 3D vision. Walker not only achieves real-time positioning, path planning and active obstacle avoidance, but also solves the issue of visual jitter caused by its own motions.

Relying on multi-modal human-computer interactions, Walker interacts with humans through text, voice, vision, action, environments and other means. Other than voice interaction, it can also respond with facial expressions and actions, such as blinking its eyes and turning its head.

Walker can walk steadily on different materials such as carpet, floor and marble through gait planning and control. Meanwhile, Walker can adapt to complicated environments such as obstacles, slopes, steps and uneven ground.
