Materials:Poster board (cut to 5” by 11”)

Copy and Clip material: Choose from the 10 Commandments, armor of God, or 10 plagues of Egypt (material begins on page 4).

This is a fun activity to help with memory retention and, since children can check their own answers, works well for practicing and learning material independently. Any information that requires matching fits nicely into this format.

To create the activity, here are the step-by-step instructions:

1. Cut poster board pieces to 5” by 11” (you will need two pieces each for the 10 Commandments and 10 plagues activities).

2. Choose the copy and clip subject material of your choice (beginning on page 4) and print on card stock. Note that information from the left and right columns does not match on purpose! This is what makes the activity work.

3. Cut out the copy and clip material of your choice and paste it to your poster board (see examples on page 2, image 1).

4. If you are making the 10 Commandments wraparound templates, you may wish to cut an arch shape along the tops of your poster board to resemble a tablet, as seen on page 2. Color the numbers (optional).

5. Use a hole punch to cut punches and notches in the top and along the sides of the poster board as seen on page 2, image 2. Use scissors to cut out a notch at the bottom of your poster board as seen in same image.

6. Cut your yarn to a length of roughly 9 feet. Thread it through the hole at the top of your poster board and tie securely.

7. Beginning with yarn behind, secure it in the top notch of the left column, then match the yarn to the correct answer in the right column by bringing the yarn over the top of the template and into the corresponding notch on the right column. Wrap the yarn around the back of the template and into the notch for the second item in the left column, matching yarn to the answer in the right column. Continue wrapping the yarn around the template (in order of notches top to bottom) until all matches are complete. Secure the yarn in the bottom center notch to keep it from unraveling.

8. Turn your template over and mark your “answer key” on the back using the wrapped yarn as your guide (you may wish to use a pencil). Unwrap the yarn and use a dark marker and ruler to make the answers neat and visible. See image 3 for a before-and-after example of an answer key.

Pair up men and women of the Bible, like Adam and Eve, Abraham and Sarah, Boaz and Ruth, and so on.

List and match the beatitudes from Matthew 5.

List and match the festivals with their meanings.

List and match where to find key passages in Scripture, such as the food laws (in Leviticus 11 and Deuteronomy 14), the fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5), the 10 Commandments (in Exodus 20 and

Deuteronomy 5), the biblical festivals (Leviticus 23), and the armor of God (Ephesians 6). Or create and enjoy your own.
