“O. A high temperature switch shall be provided for each blower as manufactured by
Ashcroft, Jumo or equal with a minimum opening range of 150° to 300°F. The
maximum temperature capability shall be 400°F. The switch may be combined
with the thermometer specified in Paragraph 2.04 K. Sensor shall be capillary
type with remote 3-3/4” brass bulb.
P. A high pressure switch shall be provided for each blower as manufactured by
Ashcroft, Type 400 in NEMA 4X enclosure, B4 Series or equal. The pressure
switch operating range shall be from 1 to 15 psig. The actuator seal shall be Viton
or equivalent and shall be suitable for air service up to 300°F. Pressure switches
shall have adjustable deadband, hermetically sealed switching element and 316
stainless steel pressure port.
Q. The high discharge temperature and pressure switches shall be pre-installed on
the discharge piping within the blower enclosure. All switches within the blower
enclosure shall be factory wired to a labeled terminal strip in a NEMA rated
junction box, housed within the blower sound enclosure. The Contractor shall
provide wiring from the terminal strip to the VFD.”

specified. Any cost savings measures proposed by the Offeror shall be submitted for

6. Section 11200S 1.02D Page 5: The SDS reactor dimensions are 30’ x 30’ x 20’ SWD. In
order to meet the performance requirements across the flow and load range, we would
like to submit on an optimized reactor size. Please confirm if that would be acceptable as
base bid.
Offeror shall complete Table 3-1: Schedule of Prices for the system as specified. Any cost
savings measures proposed by the Offeror shall be submitted for Owner consideration in
Table 3-2: Potential Deducts in Section 3 of the RFP.

7. Section 11200S 1.02D Page 5: Please confirm that the influent minimum temperature of
25 °C is the basis of sizing and design of the SDS.

8. Section 5.8.4 1 Page 46: The specification lists all submittals to be submitted to the
Owner’s Engineer within 30 days of executed procurement agreement. With associated
liquidated damages this is extremely short to enable us to provide quality, complete
submittals hence please increase to a minimum 60 days.

9. Section 11200S 3.053C Page 24: The specification lists the requirement of a 90
consecutive days performance acceptance test. It is our understanding that vendor
physical presence onsite is needed for a total of 15 days over 3 trips for the complete
performance acceptance test. Please confirm.
As noted in Section 11200S Part 3.05.B.5 and C.6, in addition to the time onsite that is
specified, Offeror shall provide manufacturer’s services required for successful
completion of the Biological Startup and Performance Acceptance Testing.
10. Section 11200S 3.053C Page 24: It is our understanding that the performance test will not
be conducted by the SDS, but by the contractor/owner. The latter will also provide the
equipment and instrumentation to collect, analyze samples and operate the sidestream
deammonification plant/equipment, and the SDS would be present only to supervise.
Please confirm.
Section 11200S, Paragraph 3.05.A.1 states that Offeror/Contractor are responsible for
Project Commissioning, and Paragrapht 3.05.A.2 states that Offeror shall provide
trained personnel to operate the system. The Owner is only responsible for sampling as
defined in Part 3.05.A.3. Any additional sampling that may be required by Offeror for
Commissioning shall be provided by Offeror as stated in Part 3.05.A.3.a.i.
11. Section 3.4 Table 3.8 Page 24: It is our understanding that the concentrations for different
influent parameters including Ammonia-N and TKN are provided before dilution. Please
confirm. If not, please advise the dilution factor used.

12. Section 3.4 Table 3.8 Page 24: Please provide post THP sidestream deammonification
influent tBOD, sBOD, sTKN, sTP, Sulfides, Conductivity, TSS and pH.

13. Section 11200S 1.02D Page 5: Mentions 35 gpm of dilution water is available. Please
advise source of dilution water and provide BOD, TSS, Ammonia-N, sTKN, sTP,
conductivity, alkalinity and temperature of the dilution water.
Dilution water will be provided from the permeate of the Membrane Bioreactor. Dilution
water noted in table will only be used for reactor cooling when required. Not all
parameters requested are available. Offer shall assume an average Ammonia-N of 0.05
mg/L, Nitrate-N of 2.5 mg/L, TP-P of 0.05 mg/L, and Alkalinity of 95 mg/L. Offeror shall
document all assumptions made on dilution water characteristics.
14. Section 11200S 1.02C Page 3: Mentions all influent TKN is converted to Ammonia-N in
the reactor. Since all influent TKN is converted to Ammonia-N, please confirm that there
is no recalcitrant organic Nitrogen in the influent and the effluent TIN removal
percentages can therefore be based off influent TKN.
Text specifically states that assumption should be made for air requirement calculations.
15. Section 11185S 2.03C Page 6: Mentions each lobe/shaft shall be supported by cylindrical
roller bearings sized for a minimum of 100,000 hours B-10 life. At the design conditions,
the blower that meets this does not have enough turndown. Please consider updating the
requirement to the blower's weakest bearing is greater than 85,000 or 10 years.

16. Section 11185S 2.04G Page 7: Mentions valve shall have a 304L stainless steel body,
with 316 stainless steel disc and shaft. Please consider changing valve materials to carbon
steel seat, brass valve disc/bushing, and aluminum cover including carbon steel shaft.

17. Section 11185S 2.04H Page 7: Mentions valves shall have 304L stainless steel bodies
with 316 SST shaft, plate, and springs. Please note that this is not a flapper type and the
swing plate is carbon steel encapsulated in EPDM. Kindly update.
Spec allows swing plate or flapper type valves as written.
18. Section 11185S 2.04J Page 7: Asks for both gauges and switches as well as Aertronic
digital controller. Since there is room for only one or the other, please consider changing
requirement to just Aertronic digital controller.

Aerzen Aertronic controllers are required to be supplied with the blowers? World Water
Works has five (5) operating systems with Aerzen blowers which do not include the
Aertronic Controller. We request that this requirement be removed.

26. In the snip below – it states – 3” plug valve with motorized actuator – however on
drawing I7501, (see snip below) there is no motors shown on the 2 plug valves. Please
confirm if they are to be motorized.

details of a complete system as proposed by the Offeror(s).
28. In the Snip below from I7501 – it shows a plug valve after the flow meter however on the
drawing M7503, no such valve is shown. Please confirm if that is to be required and
supplied by offeror.

31. From M7503 – In Snip below – Shows 2 – 6 inch plug valves on both sides of the 6 inch
flow meter. However, on I7502 – See Snip below – it only shows 2 – motorized plug
valves on the discharge side of the flow meter. Please confirm if these plug valves on the
discharge side are to be motorized and if the ones up stream of the flow meter are to be
provided and if yes, manual or motorized?

32. From I7502 – From Snip below – there shows a plug valve on the retained biomass line,

33. On Drawing – I7503 – There is NO Drain in the tank – is that correct? On Drawing
I7504 – there are flow meters on the tank drain but on Drawing I7502 – there are no flow
meters on the tank drain? Please confirm if I7503 should have a drain and if all drains
should or should not have flow meters?
Flowmeter on Tank drain has only been included for systems that use the Tank Drain as
a method of biomass wasting. See Addendum 2 for modifications.

however does not state they are motorized. Please confirm if they are to be motorized and

35. Drawing I7503, I7504 and I7502 – are there to be any level indicators in any of these
reactors?
Level indicators are not required in the reactors unless they are necessary and/or
recommended by the Offeror for control of their system.
36. Page 11 of PDF - Based on Part 1 of project having a maximum payment value of
$20,000 (see Section 5.8.6.2.a.i - Page 50 of PDF), and the project timeline for Vendor
equipment award by the Installation Contractor extending to June 2020 (see Table 1-2 on
page 9 of PDF), we request that both the Bid Bond and Performance Bond be removed.

delivery and startup without any bond requirements (DC Water, Bay Park, Pierce

required in the technical proposal printed document. Also, will an NDA be signed based
on the release of financial information?
Confirmed, financial information shall be included on a USB drive and not as part of the
technical proposal printed document. The Section 5.12 – Proprietary Information Form
discusses the handling of proprietary information. Additionally, Section 2.24342F of the
Code of Virginia as referenced in Section 5.12 of the RFP is provided as follows: “Trade
secrets or proprietary information submitted by a bidder, offeror, or contractor in
connection with a procurement transaction or prequalification application submitted
pursuant to subsection B of § 2.2-4317 shall not be subject to the Virginia Freedom of
Information Act (§ 2.2-3700 et seq.); however, the bidder, offeror, or contractor shall (i)
invoke the protections of this section prior to or upon submission of the data or other
materials, (ii) identify the data or other materials to be protected, and (iii) state the

The Hydrex SDS is attached for reference. Hydrex is being used as a common chemical
to evaluate proposals. Offeror shall provide RFP quantities for Hydrex but may propose
alternative micronutrients for the full scale system.
57. 11200S C Page 7 - Point c. and table - if PAT is operated at average flows and loads, how
is then MM numbers from table to be calculated?
PAT will be conducted on all centrate available at the time of testing. If loading rates
during testing reach MM specified loading rates then performance will be evaluated
based on the MM criteria. Any loading rates lower than the MM values will be evaluated
based on the AA criteria.
58. 11200S C Page 8 - 1.04 – A - Confirm requirement or Part 1 submittals within 30 days

under adverse conditions experienced at a Water Reclamation Facility and the high
temperatures encountered with air handling equipment. We are requesting that the Aerzen

83. Section 15170S - Low Voltage Motors, Aerzen proposes to provide WEG motors with
their blower packages. The WEG motors are equal in quality and performance to the
listed manufacturers.
The Low Voltage Motors Specification will not be changed. Any alternative
manufacturer and/or cost savings measures proposed by the Offeror shall be submitted
for Owner consideration in Table 3-2: Potential Deducts in Section 3 of the RFP.
84. Section 15170S Part 2.02 H. 2 - page 11 of 16 Clause requires all motors that are 50 HP
or higher to be individually tested at the factory before shipment. Will customer accept a
“like test” of the same size motor rather than individual tests of each motor? Testing each
motor will add a long lead time to the project.
Motors shall be tested as specified.
85. Section 15095S – Valves, 2.07 A - Page 5 of 20 of PDF, WATTS 709 - has been
discontinued. The new Part Number is LF709 and there are five (5) models, can the
engineer please choose what Back Flow Preventer they would like to specify for the
project.
It is unclear where back flow preventers are required for the Sidestream
Deammonification System. See Addendum No. 2 for revisions to the RFP to include a
check valve specification.
86. Section 11200S B:1.02:C The influent sCOD provided in the design basis table is only
10% of the TCOD, which entales the remaining 90% is particulate COD or PCOD.
Tpyically for deammonification applications, the ratio of PCOD:VSS is around 1.3-1.4,
which equates to a VSS of approximately 1000 mgVSS/L. The specification states the
centrate TSS values based on grab samples averages around 100-200 mg/L. The influent
sCOD, TCOD and TSS values provided in the specification are not consistent with each
other. Confirm the values provided in the table are correct?

87. RFP:3.4.2.f: What is the expected influent TSS for the future operating conditions with
THP centrate to properly design the clarification process downstream of the IFAS-Anita
Mox system.

88. The sCOD fraction seems too low (35-50% of TCOD) for THP centrate especially under
the design max month conditions. Confirm the values provided in the table are correct?

CHEMICAL DIAPHRAGM METERING PUMPS PART 1 -- GENERAL 1.01 THE REQUIREMENT
A. The Offeror shall furnish and Contractor install chemical metering pumps at the locations shown on the Drawings and as specified herein. All pumps shall be supplied by the same manufacturer.
B. Equipment shall be provided in accordance with the requirements of Section 11000S,
Equipment General Provisions and Section 11100S, Pumps - General. 1.02 OPERATING CONDITIONS AND PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS
A. Chemical Properties
1. The pumps shall be capable of handling the chemicals submitted in the RFP. B. Pump Performance Requirements
1. The pumps shall be capable of meeting the performance requirements specified by
the Supplier in the RFP. 1.03 SUBMITTALS
A. The following items shall be submitted with the Shop Drawings in accordance with, or in addition to the submittal requirements specified in Section 01302S; and Section 11000S, Equipment General Provisions
1. Submit pump manufacturer’s hydraulic calculations based on the metering pump
sizing submitted in the RFP.
B. Shop drawings shall include all pumps and accessories and shall be submitted as a complete system. Partial submittals will be unacceptable.
PART 2 -- PRODUCTS 2.01 ACCEPTABLE MANUFACTURERS
A. The Manufacturer shall be a company specializing in manufacture, assembly, and field performance of mechanical metering pumps with a minimum of five years experience.
B. The metering pumps shall be Sigma Series pumps as manufactured by Prominent Fluid
Controls, Inc., equivalent by, Milton Roy, Pulsafeeder or equal. 2.02 MECHANICALLY OPERATED METERING PUMPS
A. Motor operated chemical metering pumps shall be of the positive displacement, mechanical diaphragm type. The stroke frequency adjust mechanism, driven by a direct coupled,

variable speed AC motor, shall actuate a convex-shaped, teflon-faced composite diaphragm. Solenoid driven pumps will not be accepted.
B. The supplier is responsible for the coordination of corrosion-resistant materials for the
chemical solutions specified. The manufacturer shall include all features as necessary for satisfactory operation of the pumping systems for chemical solutions specified. Pumps shall perform satisfactorily over the full range of solution concentrations specified. Pumps, motors and accessories shall be coated with a heavy duty protective epoxy coating resistant to the specified chemical to prevent corrosion.
C. The metering pumps shall be provided with an oil-lubricated gear reducer and cam-and-
spring drive mounted in an aluminum housing. The housing shall be sealed into an outer plastic housing for corrosion protection with heat sink fins for cooling.
D. The liquid ends shall include cartridge-type ball check valves. Conventional threaded valves
will not be allowed. Valve service or removal shall not require any disturbances to the pump head pipeworks.
E. The liquid end shall be physically separated from the drive unit by a back plate with weep hole creating an air gap. An elastomer shaft wiper seal shall prevent contamination of the gear box if the primary diaphragm fails.
F. The pump and motor shall be mounted on a common concrete base as indicated on the Drawings. The motor shall be direct coupled to the gear box.
G. Each pump and motor shall have a corrosion resistant nameplate giving the manufacturer's
model, serial number, rating, range, speed, and other pertinent data.

2.03 ELECTRICAL AND CONTROLS REQUIREMENTS
A. Metering pump controls shall be microprocessor-based and shall be capable of remote analog operation. The pump shall accept a remote analog signal such that stroke frequency

is proportional to a 4-20 mA signal. A dry contact closure to the “pause” control function shall cause pump to halt operation and illuminate an indicator light on the pump control panel, in either manual or external pacing mode. The pump shall allow setting of a maximum stroke rate which corresponds to the maximum analog signal. Analog-to-digital converters external to the pump shall not be allowed. Local operator controls on the pump shall include stroke length control knob, stroke frequency control knob stroke frequency control up/down keys, program selection key, start/stop key, an LCD display, and indicating lights for fault annunciation. In addition to the analog control capability an SPDT relay output shall be provided for fault indication such as power supply failure, or loss of pacing signal.
B. Local adjustments and settings of the stroke length and stroke frequency shall be achieved
when the metering pump control is put in “manual” operation. Feed rate shall be controlled manually via a stroke length control adjuster. A percent scale and vernier shall indicate stroke length in 1% increments. Feed rate shall be infinitely adjustable from 0 through 100%. Repeatable metering accuracy shall be ± 2% of full scale, at constant hydraulic conditions, over the operating range.
C. Metering pump operating voltage shall be 120 VAC, 60 Hz, single phase. D. The electronic control system of the metering pump shall be continuously self-monitoring. In
the event of a system error in the microprocessor, the pump shall switch off and an alarm shall be annunciated.
2.04 METERING PUMP ACCESSORIES
A. The metering pump supplier shall furnish accessory equipment as specified herein and as shown on the Drawings including but not limited to the following:
1. Pressure gauges - Gauges shall be provided on the discharge of metering pumps.
Gauges shall be as specified in Section 17650. Each gauge shall have a range of zero to 100 psi. Each gauge shall be provided with a diaphragm seal as specified in Section 17650 constructed of materials which are completely resistant to corrosion by the chemicals referred to in this section. Each pressure gauge shall also be provided with an isolation valve. Isolation valves shall be PVC with seals that are resistant to the chemical applications.
2. Pressure relief valves – Valves shall be manufactured by the pump manufacturer
and shall be completely resistant to the chemicals for which they are provided. Sizing of the valves shall be the responsibility of the manufacturer and calculations shall be submitted with Shop Drawings.
3. Antisiphon/back pressure valves - Valves shall be manufactured by the pump
manufacturer and shall be completely resistant to the chemicals for which they are provided. Sizing of the valves shall be the responsibility of the manufacturer and calculations shall be submitted with Shop Drawings.

4. Pulsation dampeners - Diaphragm and body materials and configuration shall be supplied for the specific chemical for which the dampener is used without corrosion, wear, or other cause of abnormally short life. Each dampener shall be equipped with a charging valve and gas pad pressure gauge rated at 0 to 150 psi. Sizing of the pulsation dampeners shall be the responsibility of the manufacturer, and calculations shall be submitted with Shop Drawings.
5. Calibration Column –Calibration columns shall be constructed of transparent PVC
and shall be provided with threaded ends. Graduations shall be in mL and gallons. Each calibration column shall be sized such that at 50% pump capacity, the calibration column will be emptied in 60 to 90 seconds.
B. The Contractor shall furnish hard piping on the suction and discharge of each metering
pump. Materials of construction shall be completely compatible with the specified chemical.
2.05 TOOLS, SUPPLIES AND SPARE PARTS
A. The equipment manufacturer shall furnish all special tools necessary to disassemble, service, repair and adjust the equipment.
B. The manufacturer shall furnish a list of recommended spare parts.
PART 3 -- EXECUTION 3.01 MANUFACTURER’S FIELD SERVICES
A. The services of a qualified manufacturer's technical representative shall be provided in accordance with Section 11000A. For each series of pumps, field services shall include the following site visits as a minimum:

3.02 INSTALLATION
A. The Contractor shall furnish and install the metering pumps and all associated equipment and accessories as required and specified herein in accordance with manufacturer's instructions and in accordance with Section 11000, Equipment General Provisions. The Contractor shall install the pumps on concrete pedestals as indicated on the Drawings. Concrete pedestals shall be built to the required elevation, dimensions, level, and finish.
B. All metallic fasteners, brackets, mounting hardware, and accessories located in the storage
and feed areas shall be constructed of materials completely resistant to the specified chemicals.
C. The Contractor shall support piping adjacent to pumps such that no weight is carried on
pump casings. 3.03 TESTING, CLEANING, AND START-UP
A. All pumps shall be shop tested for capacity at rated pressure prior to shipment, with documented results provided.
B. The Contractor shall demonstrate to the Engineer that the completed systems meet the
functional requirements intended and that all components of the system are properly calibrated.
C. After installation of piping and accessories but before connection of piping to the storage
tank and pumps the Contractor shall completely flush the system to clean and remove all foreign matter from the piping system.
D. After chemical storage tanks are hydrostatically tested and the tanks and piping system are
cleaned, complete system hydrostatic tests and operational tests shall be completed with potable water. The Contractor shall check the functioning of all pump accessories, valves, and feed points and shall repair or replace all malfunctioning or unsatisfactory components. The Contractor shall repair all leaking joints and components identified during the test and through the one-year guarantee period.

CHECK VALVES PART 1 -- GENERAL 1.01 THE REQUIREMENT
A. Reference Section 15000S, Basic Mechanical Requirements. B. Valves intended for chemical service shall be constructed of materials suitable for the
intended service. PART 2 -- PRODUCTS 2.01 SWING CHECK VALVES (WATER SERVICE)
A. Unless otherwise specified, check valves 3-inches and less shall be bronze, Y-pattern, swing check valves of the regrinding type. Valves shall have a minimum 200 psi non-shock cold water pressure rating and shall be as manufactured by Jenkins Bros. Corp., Crane Company, or equal.
B. Check valves larger than 3-inches shall be cushioned swing check valves rated for a
minimum working pressure of 200 psi and shall be of the "Shockless Swing-Check" type as manufactured by G.A. Industries, or equal.
C. Valve closure shall be controlled by an external weighted lever arm, the action of which is
cushioned by a hydraulic oil or pneumatic cylinder. Counterweights and cushion cylinders shall be designed so that adjustments can be made in the field to minimize surge and to prevent backflow and hammering noises during actual service conditions. The hydraulic oil or pneumatic cushion system shall be completely self-contained.
D. Valve bodies, cover discs, levers, and disc arms shall be constructed of heavy cast iron or
cast steel fully conforming to the latest revision of ASTM A-126 Class B or Class WCB, respectively. Valve ends shall be Standard American 125 pound flat-faced flanged, in accordance with ANSI B16.1. Each valve disc shall be suspended from a noncorrosive shaft which shall pass through a stuffing box and be connected on the outside of the valve to the cushion and counterweight mechanism.
E. Valve seating shall be rubber-to-metal designed for drop-tight shutoff. The body seat ring
shall be made of bronze or stainless steel and the disc seat ring of 80 Durometer rubber. Body and disc seats shall be renewable.
F. With the exception of the valve body and seat, all parts in contact with water shall be
manufactured from noncorrosive materials. Internal corrosive surfaces shall be shop painted with two coats of epoxy for corrosion resistance. Exterior surfaces shall be painted in accordance with the requirements of Section 09900, Painting.

FABRICATED STAINLESS-STEEL SLIDE GATES PART 1 -- GENERAL 1.01 THE REQUIREMENT
A. The Offeror shall furnish and Contractor install all fabricated stainless-steel slide gates complete with all accessories, special tools, spare parts, mountings, anchor bolts and other appurtenances as specified herein, as shown on the Drawings, and as required for a complete and operating installation. The gates and appurtenances shall be supplied in accordance with the latest edition of ANSI/AWWA C561 Fabricated Stainless-Steel Slide Gates, except as modified herein. The allowable leakage rate for the stainless-steel gates in this specification shall be ½ the allowable leakage rate listed in the latest revision of AWWA C561.
B. Equipment shall be provided in accordance with the requirements of Section 11000S,
Equipment General Provisions and Section 15000S, Basic Mechanical Requirements. C. Refer to Section 1200S, for further detail on gate location, dimensions, design criteria,
number required, etc. D. Manual and electric gate actuators (operators) shall be as specified in Section 15200S. E. The Contractor shall coordinate all details, locations, clearances, and other conditions with
the various equipment suppliers, so that the gates function as part of a complete system. 1.03 SUBMITTALS
A. The following items shall be submitted with the Shop Drawings, in accordance with or in addition to, the submittal requirements specified in Section 01302S, Submittals and Section 11000S, Equipment General Provisions: 1. Shop drawings showing dimensions, general construction, and materials used for all
parts of the gate and gate appurtenances. These drawings shall include sufficient detail to determine if the proposed equipment meets the requirements specified herein and must include individual drawings for each typical gate to be provided.
2. Certification that submitted gates are in accordance with the latest edition of AWWA C561, except as modified herein.
3. Design calculations demonstrating anchor bolt sizing and spacing in compliance with AWWA C561.

A. Subject to compliance with the Specifications, provide products manufactured by Golden Harvest, Hydro Gate, Rodney Hunt, Waterman, Whipps, or approved equal. The same manufacturer shall furnish all fabricated stainless-steel slide gate assemblies.
B. The gates and appurtenances shall be designed for installation in the structures shown on
the Drawings.
C. Gates shall be configured as self-contained or non-self-contained and shall be designed to mount to a thimble (E, F, or MJ) or directly to concrete (surface mounted or embedded) as indicated in Section 11200S.
D. Gates shall be either submerged or free surface gates as indicated in Section 11200S. 1. Submerged gates shall be sealed on all 4 sides.
2. Free surface gates shall be sealed on the bottom and both sides.
E. Gates shall be either flush bottom or conventional closure as shown on the Drawings.
F. Gate actuator shall be as identified in Section 11200S. G. Stainless-steel nameplates shall be permanently attached to each pedestal (floor stand),
yoke (bench), or torque tube (bench stand), indicating gate invert elevation, the Owner’s gate tag number, and the Manufacturer’s identification number.
2.02 FRAME AND GUIDES
A. The guides shall be integral with the frame. The frame assembly, including the guide members, invert member, and yoke member, shall be constructed of formed stainless steel plate with a minimum thickness of ¼-inch.
B. Flush-bottom closure type gates shall have a replaceable compressible resilient seal attached to the invert member of the frame. The seal shall be held in place with a retainer bar or molded into the frame invert. Designs that require the invert seal to be mounted on the slide shall not be allowed.
C. The guides shall be provided with holes for anchor bolts at a maximum spacing of 18-
inches. 2.03 SLIDE
A. The slide (disc) shall be stainless-steel plate reinforced with structural shapes of the same alloy welded to the plate.
B. Slide deflection shall not exceed 1/720 of gate width at maximum design head, or 1/16 in., whichever is less.
2.04 ACTUATOR SUPPORT/MOUNTING
A. Self-contained gates shall have a yoke formed by two (2) angles or channels welded at the top of the guides to provide a one (1) piece rigid frame. The arrangement of the yoke shall be such that the stem and slide can be removed without disconnecting the yoke. At

maximum operating load, yoke deflection shall not exceed 1/720 of gate width, or a maximum of ¼-inch, whichever is less.
B. Non-self-contained gates shall have a pedestal mounted to a reinforced concrete slab or reinforced concrete haunch, aligned with the gate stem.
2.05 STEMS AND STEM GUIDES
A. Unless otherwise indicated on the Drawings, all gates shall be rising stem.
B. Operating stems shall be designed to transmit in compression at least 2-1/2 times the rated output of the operating mechanism with a 40-pound effort on the crank or handwheel, or 2 times the stalled motor torque of the electric actuator, whichever is greater.
C. Keys or pins shall be stainless steel materials matching the alloy of the gate stem. All threaded and keyed couplings of the same size shall be interchangeable.
D. Stem guides shall be adjustable in two directions and shall be placed according to Manufacturer’s recommendation, but in no case shall spacing exceed 10 feet on center. In addition, stem slenderness ratio (l/r) shall not be greater than 200.
E. Rising stem gates shall be provided with an adjustable stop collar on the stem above and
below the actuator lift nut. Collars below the nut shall not be required for self-contained gates where the frame height equals the gate height plus the range of travel of the slide.
2.06 THIMBLES
A. Wall thimbles shall be provided when required by Section 11200S and shall be designed per the design head of the associated gate as specified in Section 11200S.
B. For compatibility, all wall thimbles shall be supplied by the gate manufacturer and shall be
stainless-steel of the same alloy as the gate.
C. Type “E” thimbles shall be used to connect to piping and shall be machined with tapped holes for the connecting pipe flange attaching studs.
D. Wall thimbles shall be internally braced during installation and shall be flush-mounted, unless otherwise recommended by the gate manufacturer.
E. The gate mounting (front) flange shall be machined with tapped holes for the gate frame attaching studs and have metal stamped vertical centerlines with the word “top” for correct alignment.
F. Square-bodied thimbles shall be provided with holes in the invert to allow satisfactory concrete placement behind the thimble.
G. A permanent hard-setting mastic or polyurethane closed cell foam gasket of uniform thickness shall be provided between the gate and the wall thimble. Alternatively, the gate manufacturer may provide precision machined mating surfaces between the gate frame and wall thimble and apply a mastic material to the surfaces to provide an acceptable seal. Regardless of the method used to seal the joint between the gate flange and the wall thimble, the final assembly shall meet the leakage criteria specified herein.

3.02 INSTALLATION AND TESTING
A. Installation - The gates shall be set carefully in the locations shown on the Drawings in accordance with the installation manual furnished by the gate manufacturer.
1. The stems shall be provided with wall-mounted guides where required.
2. All gates shall be operated and tested to assure proper installation.
B. Testing - The completely assembled and installed gates shall be inspected for proper seating.
1. The gate slide shall be fully opened and closed in its guide system to ensure that it
operates freely.
2. Floorstands shall be shop-operated to ensure proper assembly and operation.

C. All gates shall be certified that at the operating head conditions indicated on the Gate Schedule, leakage shall not exceed 0.05 gallon per minute per foot of wet perimeter.
3.03 PAINTING
A. All ferrous parts, except stainless steel, of the gates and stem guides shall be blast-cleaned and painted in accordance with Section 09900S - Painting.
B. All machined iron surfaces, including drilled and tapped holes, shall be coated with a
protective grease.
C. The surfaces of the wall thimbles in contact with concrete shall remain uncoated. - END OF SECTION -

5 – FIRE-FIGHTING MEASURES
