One-way streets and street closures maynot be taken into consideration. For example, if astreet is open during the morning only, but youarrive later, it would be against the traffic regula-tions so you cannot drive along the set route.When driving, please follow the actual trafficsigns. Also, the system may not know some traf-fic regulations.

On first-time startupWhen you use the navigation system for thefirst time, an initial setup process starts auto-matically. Follow the steps below.

1 Start the engine to boot up the system.

2 Wait approximately 10 seconds, andthen press the MODE button of the AV re-ceiver.After a short pause, the navigation splashscreen appears.

3 Set the video output selector switch ac-cording to your AV receiver.

p If the screen remains black after pressingtheMODE button of the AV receiver, set theswitch to the other side.

Checking the detailed informationabout the current positionYou can get the detailed information about thecurrent position (or about the last known posi-tion if GPS reception is not available) from the“Where Am I?” screen. You can also searchfor useful Points Of Interest (POI) nearby onthe screen. Follow the steps below to open the“Where Am I?” screen.

Browsing the data fieldThe data fields are different when you are navi-gating the current route and when you haveno specified destination (the orange line is notdisplayed). The data field provides the follow-ing information.! When the route is set:

Distance to final destination, time neededto reach the final destination and estimatedarrival time

! When the route is not set:Current speed, speed limit of the currentroad and current time

p The estimated time of arrival is an idealvalue calculated based on the value set for“Max. Speed” and the actual drivingspeed. The estimated time of arrival is onlya reference value, and does not guaranteearrival at that time.= For details, refer to Setting the vehicle

holding any of the fields.

Display during freewaydrivingIn certain locations of the freeway, lane infor-mation is available, indicating the recom-mended lane to be in to easily maneuver thenext guidance.

While driving on the freeway, freeway exitnumbers and freeway signs may be displayedin the vicinity of interchanges and exits.If you are approaching a complex intersectionand the needed information exists, the map isreplaced with a 3D view of the junction.

Smart ZoomYour navigation system features “Smart Zoom”

that works in two ways:! When the route is set:

When approaching a turn, it will zoom inand raise the view angle to let you easily re-cognize your maneuver at the next junc-tion. If the next turn is at a distance, it willzoom out and lower the view angle to beflat so you can see the road in front of you.

! When the route is not set:“Smart Zoom” will zoom in if you driveslowly and zoom out when you drive athigh speed.

Switching the map orientationYou can switch how the map shows your vehi-cle’s direction between “Heading up” and“North up”.! Heading up:

Thus, the infor-mation may not correspond with a certaintraffic regulation when your vehicle actuallypasses through the location in question.Also, the information on the traffic regula-tions provided applies for a passenger vehi-cle, and not for a truck or other deliveryvehicles. Always follow the actual trafficregulations when driving.

Searching for a location byaddressThe most frequently used function is “FindAddress”, in which the address is specifiedand the location is searched.p Depending on the search results, some

The route calculation can be optimized fordifferent situations and vehicle types bychanging the planning method.! Fast:

Calculates a route with the shortest tra-vel time to your destination as a priority.

! Green:Calculates a quick but fuel efficientroute based on the fuel consumptiondata given in Route settings. Travel costand CO2 emission calculations are esti-mations only. They cannot take eleva-tions, curves and traffic conditions intoaccount.

! Short:Calculates a route with the shortest dis-tance to your destination as a priority.Usually practical for pedestrians, cy-clists or slow vehicles. Searching for ashort route regardless of the speed, thisroute type is rarely practical for normalvehicles.

! Easy:Results in a route with fewer turns andno difficult maneuvers. With this option,you can make this system to take, for ex-ample, the freeway instead of a series ofsmaller roads or streets.

Changing road types usedTo recalculate the current route with differentroad type preferences, follow the steps below.p To let the route fit your needs, you can also

set which road types are to be consideredfor or to be excluded from the route if possi-ble. Excluding a road type is a preference. Itdoes not necessarily mean total prohibi-tion.

p If your destination can only be accessedusing some of the excluded road types,they will be used but only as much as ne-cessary. In this case a warning icon will beshown on the route parameter, and the partof the route not matching your preferencewill be displayed in a different color on themap.

4 Touch any of the listed road types.

If needed, scroll the list for all road types. Thefollowing options can be set for route calcula-tion:

! Highways:Set whether to avoid freeways when you aredriving a slow car or you are towing anothervehicle.

! Period Charge:Set whether to include toll roads with re-stricted time access where you can pur-chase a pass or vignette to use the road fora longer period of time. This option can beenabled or disabled separately from tollroads.

! Per-use Toll:Set whether to include toll roads wherethere is a per-use charge. The navigationsystem includes toll roads by default.

! Ferries:Set whether to include ferries. The naviga-tion system includes ferries by default.

! Carpool/HOV:Sets whether to include the carpool or HOVlanes. The navigation system excludes car-pool or HOV by default.

Modifying the routeWhen navigation is already started, there areseveral ways to modify the current route. Thefollowing sections describe some of those op-tions.

Selecting a new destinationwhen a route is already setIf you already have a recommended route andyou select a new destination, the navigationsystem will ask you whether to start a newroute, add a new waypoint to the route or ap-pend the newly selected destination at the endof the current route.

! New Route:

Touch this key to plan a new route to thenewly selected location. The previous desti-nation and waypoint(s) are deleted.

! Waypoint:Touch this key to add the newly selected lo-cation as a waypoint to your route. Theother destinations of the route remain in-tact.p The new waypoint is placed among des-

tinations to keep the route optimal. Todecide where a waypoint to appear, usethe “Edit Route” menu.

! Final Destination:Touch this key to append the newly se-lected destination at the end of the route.The other destinations of the route remainintact. The previous final destination is nowthe last waypoint.

Setting a new starting positionfor the routeFor normal navigation, all routes are plannedfrom the current position. In order to check fu-ture routes, simulate them or see their lengthin time and distance, you can turn off the GPSreceiver. Then you can set the starting point ofthe route to a different location than the cur-rent GPS position.

This sys-tem alerts you if you exceed the presetvalue even if the legal speed limit is higher.This setting lets you decide whether youwish to receive visible and/or audible warn-ings.Adjust the slider to set the relative speedabove which the application initiates thewarning.The following alert types are available:! Audio and Visual: you receive a verbal

warning when you exceed the speedlimit with the given percentage.

! Traffic Receiver:You can set to enable or disable the TMC re-ceiver that can receive real-time traffic infor-mation. The following items (Detour, andEvent types) are all related to the TMC func-tion and are available only if the receiver isenabled.

! Detour:This setting determines how this systemuses the received real-time traffic informa-tion in route calculation. When calculatinga new route, or when recalculation be-comes necessary based on the receivedtraffic events, this system avoids trafficevents if it makes sense.You can also set the minimum delay thattriggers route recalculation, and you can in-struct the application if you want to confirmevery recalculation.

! Offer Freeway Services:You may need a gas station or a restaurantduring your journey. This feature displays anew key on the map when you are drivingon freeways. Touch this key to open a panelwith the details of the next few exits or ser-vice stations. Touch any of them to displayit on the map and add it as a waypoint toyour route if needed.

! Facility Types:Select the service types displayed for thefreeway exists. Choose from the POI cate-gories.

! Signposts:Whenever adequate information is avail-able, lane information similar to the realones on road signs above the road is dis-played at the top of the map. You can turnthis feature on or off.

If you are approaching a freeway exit or acomplex intersection and the needed infor-mation exists, the map is replaced with a3D view of the junction. You can turn thisfeature on or let the map be displayed forthe whole route.

! Tunnel View:When entering tunnels, the surface roadsand buildings can be distracting. This fea-ture shows a generic picture of a tunnel in-stead of the map. A top-down overview ofthe tunnel and remaining distance are alsodisplayed.

! Route Progress Bar:Turn on the route progress bar to see yourroute as a straight line on the left side ofthe map. The blue arrow represents yourcurrent position and moves up as you tra-vel. Waypoints and traffic events are alsodisplayed on the line.

! Offer Congestion Detour on Highways:When you slow down while driving on afreeway, there is a chance that you are in atraffic congestion so this system offers youa detour using the next exit. The messageshows you distance of the exit and the dif-ference in distance and estimated timecompared to the original route. You canchoose from one of the following options:! Touch [Dismiss] or just ignore the mes-

sage if you want to keep the originalroute.

! Touch [Preview] to see the overview ofthe original route and the detour tomake the decision. You can accept thedetour as offered or increase the by-passed freeway segment before accept-ing.

! Turn to the suggested new direction andthe route will be automatically recalcu-lated.

! Offer Real-time Route Alternatives:Alternative routes can be suggested whendriving on normal roads. This system willselect a different turn in the upcoming in-tersection and offers you a different route

for the next section of the route. But youcannot modify the offered detour.

! Offer Parking Around Destination:Parking at the destination may not be easyin city areas. As you approach the destina-tion, this system can offer parking categoryplaces near your destination. Touch this keyto open a top-down map with the destina-tion and the offered parking places. Selectone and modify the route accordingly.

! Offer Hints Upon Detour:If you leave the recommended route andsuddenly exit the freeway, this system offersdifferent alternatives near the exit like gasstations or restaurants. Also, if there areavoidable parts of the original route ahead(like a tunnel, a toll road or a ferry), you willfind them in the list in case you want to by-pass them with the help of this system.

Precautions beforeconnecting the system

CAUTION! If you decide to perform the installation

! Secure all wiring with cable clamps orelectrical tape. Do not allow any bare wir-ing to remain exposed.

! Do not directly connect the yellow lead ofthis product to the vehicle battery. If thelead is directly connected to the battery,engine vibration may eventually causethe insulation to fail at the point where

the wire passes from the passenger com-partment into the engine compartment. Ifthe yellow lead’s insulation tears as a re-sult of contact with metal parts, short-cir-cuiting can occur, resulting inconsiderable danger.

! It is extremely dangerous to allow cablesto become wound around the steering col-umn or shift lever. Be sure to install thisproduct, its cables, and wiring away insuch so that they will not obstruct or hin-der driving.

! Make sure that the cables and wires willnot interfere with or become caught inany of the vehicle’s moving parts, espe-cially the steering wheel, shift lever, park-ing brake, sliding seat tracks, doors, orany of the vehicle’s controls.

! Do not route wires where they will be ex-posed to high temperatures. If the insula-tion heats up, wires may becomedamaged, resulting in a short circuit ormalfunction and permanent damage tothe product.

! Do not cut the GPS antenna cable toshorten it or use an extension to make itlonger. Altering the antenna cable couldresult in a short circuit or malfunction.

! Do not shorten any leads. If you do, theprotection circuit (fuse holder, fuse resis-tor or filter, etc.) may fail to work properly.

! Never feed power to other electronic pro-ducts by cutting the insulation of thepower supply lead of the navigation sys-tem and tapping into the lead. The currentcapacity of the lead will be exceeded,causing overheating.

Before installing this product! Use this unit with a 12-volt battery and ne-

gative grounding only. Failure to do so mayresult in a fire or malfunction.

! To avoid shorts in the electrical system, besure to disconnect the (–) battery cable be-fore installation.

To prevent damage

WARNING! The black lead is ground. Please ground

this lead separately from the ground ofhigh-current products such as poweramps. Do not ground more than one pro-duct together with the ground from an-other product. For example, you mustseparately ground any amp unit awayfrom the ground of this navigation sys-tem. Connecting grounds together cancause a fire and/or damage the products iftheir grounds became detached.

! When replacing the fuse, be sure to onlyuse a fuse of the rating prescribed on thisproduct.! When disconnecting a connector, pull the

connector itself. Do not pull the lead, asyou may pull it out of the connector.

! This product cannot be installed in a vehi-cle without ACC (accessory) position onthe ignition switch.

Precautions beforeinstallation

CAUTION! Never install this product in places where,

or in a manner that:! Could injure the driver or passengers if

the vehicle stops suddenly.! May interfere with the driver’s opera-

tion of the vehicle, such as on the floorin front of the driver’s seat, or close tothe steering wheel or shift lever.

! Make sure there is nothing behind thedashboard or paneling when drilling holesin them. Be careful not to damage fuellines, brake lines, electronic components,communication wires or power cables.

! When using screws, do not allow them tocome into contact with any electrical lead.Vibration may damage wires or insulation,leading to a short circuit or other damageto the vehicle.

! To ensure proper installation, be sure touse the supplied parts in the manner spe-cified. If any parts are not supplied withthis product, use compatible parts in themanner specified after you have the parts’compatibility checked by your dealer. Ifparts other than supplied or compatibleones are used, they may damage internalparts of this product or they may workloose and the product may become de-tached.

! Failure to follow all of these precautionsmay result in serious injury or death.

Secure the RGB cable with the 11 mm (.4 in) screw

The navigation unit

Where applicable, secure the cable to the AV receiver using an 11 mm (.4 in) screw (supplied).

Insert one end of the RGB cable into the “DATA BUS” slot on the side of this product and secure it with an 11 mm (.4 in) screw (supplied). Connect the other end of the cable to RGB IN input on the back of your Pioneer AV receiver.

Positioning technologyPositioning by GPSThe Global Positioning System (GPS) uses anetwork of satellites orbiting the Earth. Eachof the satellites, which orbit at a height of68 900 000 feet (21 000 km), continually broad-casts radio signals giving time and position in-formation. This ensures that signals from atleast three can be picked up from any openarea on the ground’s surface.The accuracy of the GPS information dependson how good the reception is. When the sig-nals are strong and reception is good, GPScan determine latitude, longitude and altitudefor accurate positioning in three dimensions.But if signal quality is poor, only two dimen-sions, latitude and longitude, can be obtainedand positioning errors are somewhat greater.

Handling large errorsPositioning errors are kept to a minimum bycombining GPS, dead reckoning and mapmatching. However, in some situations, thesefunctions may not work properly, and the errormay become bigger.

When positioning by GPS isimpossible! GPS positioning is disabled if signals can-

not be received from more than two GPSsatellites.

! In some driving conditions, signals fromGPS satellites may not reach your vehicle.In this case, it is impossible for the systemto use GPS positioning.

In tunnels or en-closed parkinggarages

Under elevatedroads or similarstructures

When drivingamong high build-ings

When driving througha dense forest or talltrees

! If a car phone or cellular phone is usednear the GPS antenna, GPS reception maybe lost temporarily.

! Do not cover the GPS antenna with spraypaint or car wax, because this may blockthe reception of GPS signals. Snow buildupcan also degrade the signals, so keep theantenna clear.

p If a GPS signal has not been received for along time, your vehicle’s actual positionand the current position mark on the mapmay diverge considerably or may not be up-dated. In such case, once GPS reception isrestored, accuracy will be recovered.

Conditions likely to causenoticeable positioning errorsFor various reasons, such as the state of theroad you are traveling on and the receptionstatus of the GPS signal, the actual position ofyour vehicle may differ from the position dis-played on the map screen.

Route setting informationRoute search specificationsYour navigation system sets a route to yourdestination by applying certain built-in rules tothe map data. This section provides some use-ful information about how a route is set.

CAUTIONWhen a route is calculated, the route and voiceguidance for the route are automatically set.Also, for day or time traffic regulations, only infor-mation about traffic regulations applicable at thetime when the route was calculated is consid-ered. One-way streets and street closures maynot be taken into consideration. For example, if astreet is open during the morning only, but youarrive later, it would be against the traffic regula-tions so you cannot drive along the set route.When driving, please follow the actual trafficsigns. Also, the system may not know some traf-fic regulations.

! The calculated route is one example of theroute to your destination decided by the na-vigation system while taking the type ofstreets or traffic regulations into account. Itis not necessarily an optimum route. (Insome cases, you may not be able to set thestreets you want to take. If you need to takea certain street, set a waypoint on thatstreet.)

! If the destination is too far, there may be in-stances where the route cannot be set. (Ifyou want to set a long-distance route goingacross several areas, set waypoints alongthe way.)

! During voice guidance, turns and intersec-tions from the freeway are announced.However, if you pass intersections, turns,and other guidance points in rapid succes-sion, some may delay or not be announced.

! It is possible that guidance may direct youoff a freeway and then back on again.

! In some cases, the route may require youto travel in the opposite direction to yourcurrent heading. In such cases, you are in-structed to turn around, so please turnaround safely by following the actual trafficrules.

! In some cases, a route may begin on theopposite side of a railway or river from youractual current location. If this happens,drive towards your destination for a while,and try route calculation again.

! When there is a traffic congestion ahead, adetour route may not be suggested if driv-ing through the traffic congestion wouldstill be better than taking the detour.

! There may be instances when the startingpoint, the waypoint and the destinationpoint are not on the highlighted route.

! The number of traffic circle exits displayedon the screen may differ from the actualnumber of roads.

Route highlighting! Once set, the route is highlighted in bright

color on the map.! The immediate vicinity of your starting

point and destination may not be high-lighted, and neither will areas with particu-larly complex road layouts. Consequently,the route may appear to be cut off on thedisplay, but voice guidance will continue.

Auto reroute function! If you deviate from the set route, the system

will re-calculate the route from that pointso that you remain on track to the destina-tion.

! This function may not work under certainconditions.

GPSGlobal Positioning System. A network of satel-lites that provides navigation signals for a vari-ety of purposes.

Guidance modeThe mode in which guidance is given as youdrive to your destination; the system automati-cally switches to this mode as soon as a routehas been set.

Guidance pointThese are important landmarks along yourroute, generally intersections. The next gui-dance point along your route is indicated onthe map by the flag icon.

Point Of Interest (POI)Any of a range of locations stored in the data,such as railway stations, shops, restaurants,and amusement parks.

RDS-TMCA communication system for informing driversof the latest traffic information using FM multi-plex broadcast. Information such as trafficcongestion or accidents can be checked onthe display.

Route settingThe process of determining the ideal route to aspecific location; route setting is done auto-

matically by the system when you specify adestination.

Set routeThe route marked out by the system to yourdestination. It is highlighted in bright color onthe map.

Track logYour navigation system logs routes that you al-ready passed through if the track logger is ac-tivated. This recorded route is called a “tracklog”. It is handy when you want to check aroute traveled or if returning along a complexroute.

Voice guidanceThe giving of directions by navigation voicewhile in guidance.
