Business  evolution  is  not  new

There  is  a  new  business  model  and  a  new  style  of  leadership  emerging,  which  will  redefine  structure,   process,   technology   and   people.   It   speaks   of   openness,   collaboration   and   co-­‐design.    We  are  no  longer  bound  by  history  and  what  has  gone  before;  we  are  only  bound  by  our  own  imagination.  !Henry   Ford   created   the   8-­‐hour  working   day   as   well   as   the   concept   of   a   production   line,  leading  to  the  establishment  of  what  many  still  today  view  as  a  template  for  organisational  structure  and  governance.  !Leap  to  the  60s  and  the  dawn  of  consumerism,  convenience  and  globalisation.  The  business  model  and  leadership  style  pivoted  to  bring  in  external  data  sources  and  creativity  to  wow  and  delight  the  customer  into  becoming  loyal  to  a  single  brand.  !Today  we  are  in  the  midst  of  another  dramatic  change.  We  are  seeing  a  convergence  of  skills  breaking  down  traditional  organisational  structures;  technologists  need  to  understand  the  customer,   communications   experts   need   to   understand   technology.   The   data   explosion  driven  by   social   and  mobile  has  meant   that  meaningful  data   informing  business  decisions  continues   to   diminish   under   the  weight   of   data   feeds   from  everywhere.  We   are   seeing   a  power  shift  to  a  more  open  community,  where  crowds  contribute  to  anything  from  funding  to  product  design.      In  the  short  term  businesses  must  learn  how  to  be  adaptive,  in  the  long  term  businesses  will  become  more   like   shape   shifters,   assuming   new   forms,   entering   new  markets,   even   new  industries  quickly  and  successfully  in  order  to  survive.    !To   survive   businesses   need   to   start   building   digital   competency   and   capability   now   in  order  to  begin  their  journey  towards  this  new  world,  which  is  already  in  view.

An  inconvenient  truth  -­‐  but  a  truth  all  the  same

Every  business  is  now  a  digital  business  and  those  where  the  full  C-­‐Suite  understand  the  benefits  of  this  are  those  that  will  be  most  successful.

The  21st  century  business  leader  is  more  time  poor  than  ever,  with  an  ever  increasing  need  to   get   to   grips   with   the   internal   and   external   challenges   digital   brings.   Increasing  connectedness  between  humans,  technology  and  ‘Everything’.  The  truth  is  digital  is  shaking  the  very  foundation  of  our  traditional  business  model.  !According  to  Gartner,  25%  of  businesses  will  suffer  based  on  a  lack  of  digital  competency  by  2017.    Following  a  recent  Forrester  survey  approximately  80%  of  respondents  said  they  had  a  digital  strategy  but  only  approximately  15%  were  able  to  demonstrate  this.  It  is  therefore  an   inconvenient   truth   that  every  business  across  every   industry   is  now  affected  by  digital  disruption,  an  ever-­‐changing  technology  landscape  and  increasing  customer  expectations.  !The  business  imperative  Coherent   and   comprehensive   digital   leadership   is   the   first   step   toward   addressing   the  business   imperative.   A   clear  digital   vision   and   strategy   will   help   you   tackle   head   on   the  complex  changing  digital  landscape.    With  strong  and  solid  digital  leadership  businesses  will  be  able  to  transition  to  a  more  adaptive  approach,  able  to  see  change,  assess  change  and  act   upon   that   change   if   it   is  meaningful   for   the   business   to   do   so.   Those  without   digital  leadership   or   the   strategy   to   become   more   adaptive   will   find   themselves   increasingly  playing   catch   up,   being   reactive   not   pro-­‐active   and   losing   out   to   competitors   who   have  embraced   this   brave   new   world.   Moreover,   they   will   ultimately   lose   not   just   to   their  competitors,  but  also  to  new,  left  field  disruptors  -­‐  who  can  come  from  anywhere.    !The   ability   to   adapt   to   digital   is   the   only   way   to   secure   continued   growth,   deliver  innovation,  and  achieve  an  audience  centric  business  culture.
