It has been more than a year since Malaysia implemented Goods and Services Tax (GST). The impact could be felt across all industries, particularly the retail industry which is at the fore front with end consumers. GST is a consumption tax which is a tax paid by consumers for products and services they consume. The slow down of the consumer demand has continued into 2016 which we can see from the sales of motor vehicles, which has dropped more than 20%.
We know our retail industry is facing a very challenging time. Sales is greatly affected negatively, but majority of landlords still insisting on rent increase when the store tenancy is dued for renewal. In addition, online shopping is slowly and surely eating into “brick and mortar” businesses in shopping complexes. We foresee that many retailers will face cash flow problem and may have to close to reduce losses.
In view of the impending challenges to our retail business, we have established our Mechandising Team to further ensure we can achieve the objective “Right products at the Right Location at the Right price and in the Right shopping ambience” to our customers. In order to achieve this objective, the management would like to emphasize the importance of staff training. We would like to request all staff at all level to render your upmost supports to our training department. We need your support to make it a success.
The management does not foresee an early recovery of retail industry in the near future. In fact, we expect it to get worse before we can see improvement. Hence, it is our hope and request for all staff to put in your extra effort to face the more challenging year of 2017.
Happy Selling.
Selamat Menjual.

“Techniques to Increase Retail Sales” training Date : 20 – 21 July 2016Trainer : Mr. Tonee Sow from Global Intelligence Network (M) Sdn Bhd.Objective : increasing outlet’s sales performance and staffs’ customer service level.
This training has taught us to:a. Control of our emotions, attitude on and stay positive when dealing with customers or situations that are beyond our
control,b. Not stress over things that we cannot control,c. Always focus on improving our communication skills, product knowledge and organizing your time and workplace well,d. Use NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming) in sales – it is the way you think, behave and what you say that will determine
whether you will get what you want or not. If you don’t know how to communicate what you want properly, you will not get the sales that you want.
e. Create positive first impression for a lasting impression by smiling, eye contact and greeting,
f. Probe into customers’ needs and requirements,g. Inform customers on the features and benefits of the product,h. Handle all types of objections well as this is an opportunity to close
the sale,i. Using the “mirroring” technique. It means we imitate the non –
verbal cues of the customer. Mirroring is a non – verbal gesture that we use to build rapport with
the customer. j. Close the sale by connecting the benefits of the product with
customers’ needs and ask the customer how he or she would like to pay for the product,
k. Use the “rehashing” technique – to ask customer whether they want to purchase anything else at the end of the transaction.
We hope that the staffs who have attended this training will apply what they have learnt at their outlets.
For those who did not attend, we hope you can pick up some important points from A – K above and apply it at your outlet.
Remember, to be good at what you do – you need to do it with PASSION & don’t forget to practise, practise and practise!!!
