Adamas Shawl Designed by Miriam L. Felton

“Adamas ” in Greek means indomitable or untamable. This name was given to diamonds because of their ability to scratch anything, while not being scratched themselves. The diamond motif in thisshawl was adapted from the pattern for a bread cloth in Sophia Caulfeild's D ic t io n a ry o f N e e d le w o r k first published in 1882.

Once Chart 3 is complete, bind off VERY LOOSELY on RS as follows: K2,*slip left hand needle into those 2 sts

Wet block by soaking in lukewarm wateror a Euclan bath for 15-20 min, untilshawl is thoroughly saturated. Pin tofinished measurements. Plac e a p in ineach point and tug a bit to make itstand out. Blocking may be a ided withblocking wires or strong cotton crochet

thread. Allow shawl to dry completelybefore removing pins.
