Celebrating 40 years in education

As its mission statement suggests, Adam Elementary School strives to build lasting relationships with its students and the surrounding community. Providing an engaging learning environment that is positive, challenging, and fun is paramount for Principal Elizabeth May. “We work hard to raise the bar for our students by infusing our instruction with rigor and relevance,” she says.

AES proudly participated in the Destination Imagination competition this year, sending nine teams to compete in various challenges that require complex thinking, problem-solving, teamwork, and creativity. Several students received high markings, with two teams advancing to the regional level.

The Adam Eagles are very proud of their school and their many accomplishments. Recently, the campus earned a rating of Recognized from the Texas Education Agency for the 2011-2012 school year, showing off students’ and teachers’ commitment to hard work.

“Every time I go to Adam Elementary, I am so impressed with the dynamic teachers, staff, and of course, all the fantastic students,” shares Cypress UMC volunteer Betsy Young.

After volunteering with the fourth-grade class for Junior Achievement, Abbie Ziegler was impressed not only with the enthusiasm of the students, but also with their sincere gratitude for the volunteers taking a genuine interest in their lives and education. “After the last session they each gave me a thank you note saying how much they enjoyed having me in the class and for the information they learned,” she says. “They could not thank us enough. I am looking forward to volunteering at Adam this school year.”

Soaring to New HeightsAES takes pride in being a positive behavior intervention support (PBIS) campus. School-wide systems are in place to positively motivate students to succeed and make good choices in their behavior.

The Adam Eagles enjoy working with local Boy Scouts focused on earning their Eagle Scout ranking. The scouts give back through various campus projects, like building garden boxes to encourage an outdoor learning environment. “Our goal is to have a box for every grade level to work in, research, and support,” explains May.

The community and staff also support their students through the school’s annual holiday shop. Throughout the year, students earn SOAR bucks when they are exercising self-control, staying on task, demonstrating a great attitude, and showing respect.

In this shop, they are able to purchase donated items, so they will have gifts for their families at Christmas. “It’s an amazing experience,” says May.

The students at AES work diligently each day to move forward in their educational goals and are delighted with the opportunities they have to learn alongside pillars in the community. “Adam is a great school,” says May. “We pride ourselves on building lasting relationships with our students and the community.” CFM
