‘Daintree Rainforest Art’ 2C & 2S Inspired by Jeannie Baker’s book and art from the book ‘Where the Forest Meets the Sea’ and ‘If I Ran the Rainforest’ By Dr Seuss. 1. Get 4 boxes and stack them on top of each other, cutting the top of the top box off (for the sky). 2. Cut a hole through the boxes to put a long pipe/paper roll, to act as a tree while also supporting the boxes (see image below). Alternatively, you can use 4 individual paper rolls and place the directly above each other. 3. Arrange students into groups of 2/3 (or individually if you have enough boxes) and assign them one layer of the rainforest. In their groups, students research this layer of the rainforest and decide which colours would be most appropriate for the habitat. 4. Have students quickly sketch their assigned layer in their art diaries and decide on the colours they will need. 5. Students then get the paint colours they think they will need for their particular layer of the rainforest and start painting their boxes.
