STATES
• A territorial entity controlled by a government and inhabited populations• State government answers to no higher authority• ***Not states in the United States. State refers to
what you have grown up calling countries***

• Groups of people who share a sense of national identity, usually a language and culture

• Conflict arises when people of a nationality are not recognized by the sovereign state• Reason for most of the conflict in the Middle East
INTERGOVERNMENTAL ORGANIZATIONS
• Organizations whose members are national governments• UN• OPEC (Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries)• World Trade Organization (WTO)• NATO
NONGOVERNMENTAL ORGANIZATIONS
• Private organizations with political, humanitarian, or economical purpose• Multinational Corporations (MNC’s)• terrorist organizations • Greenpeace
