PUBLIC CONSULTATION RESULTS ACTON SKATE PARK

The consultation period for Acton Skate Park ran for 6 weeks ending on 16th

September 2017. The following are the results from the postal and online consultation survey. Summary 1345 leaflets were sent out together with posters put up advertising the consultation onsite at key points around the park, social media was also used to advertise the consultation including twitter, Facebook and a press release was issued. There was overall a good deal of support for these improvements with over 453 people responding to the consultation. 285 responses were made online and 168 postal responses were received. Based on these results 75 percent of people agreed with the Acton Skate park proposal. The project will therefore now go forward to planning application and detailed design. Some of the results have been split up to show the differences between postal and online responses as well as the combined results. This is because the postal responses are all received from neighbouring residents bordering the park while the online responses were open to all users of the park. Overall both the postal and the online responses agree to the proposal of a skate park within Acton Park. Postal consultation boundary:

• “There is an underused skate park in Ravenscourt Park, Hammersmith which is a large

park area.”

• “Involve Apple playcentre in running structured sessions and also plan sessions for younger children.”

• “Are you going to present these proposals at the ward forums in Acton?.”

• “It would be great if this was maintained to the standard of Gurnell.”

• “Has anyone thought about the possibility of a closed, commercially operated skate park?.”

• “Add a water fountain put plenty of bins to prevent littering.”

• “Good idea, needs seating for parents etc.”

Concerns:

• Parking issues/ Use money to improve parking around park.

• Issues raised regarding the location near the play area and that it should be Located elsewhere.

• Concerns raised regarding groups of teenagers using the skate park.

• “Strict noise and crowd controls needed, undertake a noise impact assessment.”

• “Concreting of park land.”

• “Enough activities already onsite.”

• Concern that skateboarders will be a danger to park users.

• Concern skate park will attract the wrong crowd.

• Concern over loss of green space.

• “No skate-able paths down to the play area.”

Comments regarding the design and construction of the skate park:

• “There are many mediocre skateparks in London. Use a professional, skater-owned construction company.”

• “Although the Gunnel park has achieved wonderful things within the community I

strongly recommend that you do not 'copy' the design and really do bring in more experienced skaters in order to help with the design.”

• “The Skate Park in Victoria Park Hackney seems very good to me - if that can be copied

it should be a success.”

• “I would advise talking to and working closely with the local skateboarding community on the design and planning if it gets the go-ahead as there were mistakes with the build of Gurnell skatepark which renders whole areas of the skatepark essentially unusable.”

• “The skatepark would benefit from being a street style skatepark - Gurnell is fairly close and

is mostly transition, therefore it would make sense to vary the skateparks from each other

Page 12: ACTON SKATE PARK CONSULTATION FINAL RESULTS REV 5

as they are the only two Ealing has.”

• “Consult with current skate park users to ensure that the bowls etc are designed as per their ambitions and enthusiasms.”

• “Include seating area for those hanging out and watching.”

• “Please could there be a good stair set.”

• “There needs to be more sections for beginners and advanced or it is not useful as

level improves.”

• “Could anti graffiti materials be used.”

• “Leave open in the design for extension if it proves to be popular.”

• “More detailed plans and information about design of skatepark would be well received. Anticipated preferential use of skate park, BMX, skateboard, skooter etc and designing with a range of sports in mind is important.”

• “Make the skatepark as big as possible and make sure you include a skate bowl that is big.”
