OF


(For the financial Year 2016-17) Introduction

Drainage Division, Bhadrak was created on dated 01.12.2001 to address the drainage

congestion and waterlogging problems with respect to three Doabs of North Odisha in Bhadrak

district and a part of Balasore and Keonjhar District. Later on, the natural drainage system of

Bhadrak Municipality was entrusted upon this division with a view to improving the disposal of

surface runoff causing aggravated inundation during rains and affecting normal public life.

Jurisdiction The jurisdiction of the division spreads over Doab No-XI (Kansabansa-Mantei), Doab No-XII

(Mantei-Salandi) and Doab No-XIII (Salandi-Baitarani) covering all the seven Blocks of Bhadrak

district, partly two Blocks of Keonjhar district and partly three Blocks of Balasore district. This

Division comprises of four Subdivisions and twelve no of Sections. The jurisdiction of each Sub

division and Sections is placed at Annexure-A.

Drainage under Bhadrak Municipality

In the periphery of Bhadrak Municipality, there are ten natural drains through which the

storm water passes unto river Salandi and other drains at this outskirt. This drainage system was

entrusted upon this division during 2015-16 and two works were taken up to address immediate

congestion of natural drains in the town. A comprehensive approach was taken by the

organization to address the drainage congestion, curb water logging area and effective discharge

of storm water from Bhadrak Municipal area to river Salandi and nearby drains during 2016-17

and accordingly approval was received from 121st

TAC of State Flood Control Board held on dated

22.02.2016 vide L.No-10709/WE Dt 17.3.2016 of Engineer in Chief, Water Resources, Odisha,

Bhubaneswar. The administrative approval was also accorded and communicated vide Lr. No.

11566/WR Dt. 18.05.2016 of Department of Water Resources, Govt. of Odisha for Rs.1249.94

lakh.

Due to some land acquisition problem encountered, the tender was deferred and now, the

survey and investigation is being taken up for re-tendering of the work so that bids in two parts

can be invited during December- 2017and January-2018 under D.I.P.

The main activities of this division are carried out through RIDF, DIP, Critical and other

State Funds. Constructions of Check Dams are also undertaken by this division to stabilise the

ayacut and provide irrigation from in-stream storage to crops during scarce rainfall and Rabi

season.

1. RIDF Since 2004-05 to till 2015-16, Eleven no of projects were taken up under different tranche

of this scheme which are already completed. During 2016-17, two no of projects are taken up

under RIDF- XIX, status of which are as follows.

3. Critical Lump The funds under this scheme is utilised to bridge the gap between this schemes D.I.P and

other grants for left over works which are felt direly necessary for public utility. The list of

projects executed during 2016-17are placed at Annexure-C.

4. Check Dam

155 no of Check Dams were completed under this scheme prior to 2016-17 and after their

completion 2117.50 Ha of land were benefited for irrigation. During 2016-17, Forty five no of new

Check Dams are taken up, status of which are placed at Annexure-D.
