Activities, Classes & Opportunities
8th January – Sunday 2nd April
Session 1 - 2018
Our Vision:
We believe in a world where people reach
their full potential, feel positive about
themselves, valued and connected to
others and the wider community.
Our mission:
We will create an inclusive person-
centred environment where people feel
empowered to develop skills, build
positive relationships and enjoy an
ongoing sense of belonging.
ABOUT US The Grassmarket Community Project was set up by Grassmarket Mission and
Greyfriar’s Kirk and is about supporting people through transitions in their lives and
reconnecting disengaged people. This is the ethos that underpins all the elements of
what we do, from cooking to social integration, work opportunities to social contact,
advice to arts.
We are committed to meeting individuals welcoming them and supporting them
wherever they are on their journey. We are aimed at vulnerable people however we
also open the doors to anyone so we have enjoy a truly rich, diverse and supportive
community!
We offer a mixture of education programmes, drop-in services, social enterprise and
social integration activities. Free lunches are served to participants in the project as
well as those in need at our sit down Open Door Meal on Monday evenings.
We believe everyone should:
· feel valued and given dignity
· feel cared for and move towards independent living without feeling
abandoned or isolated
· be confident to trust and value their own decisions, ultimately realising their
own potential
· build a life which reduces dependence on others and become self-reliant

Frequently Asked Questions
Q—How do I sign up for Classes? A- Once you are a member there is an activity book kept at Reception. You just need to flip through that book to your chosen activity with the appropriate date and sign your name. Please do this in advance, as sometimes activities can be cancelled on the day, and we would need to notify all members who had signed up. Make sure your contact details and emergency contact details are up-to-date. You can also phone 0131 225 3626, email [email protected] or text 07860 021 262 in we’ll add you. Q—How do I sign up for Lunch? A- Once you have signed up for an activity on a chosen day, there is a separate sign in sheet kept at reception for lunch. Note: You must be coming to an activity in the morning/afternoon in order to attend lunch.
Q- What if I need to cancel? A- We are aware that things may come up and you are no longer able to attend a group. We ask that you phone reception 0131 225 3626 to let us know you are unable to make it. You can text 07860 021 262 or email in [email protected]
Q- What if I want to become a volunteer? A- We couldn’t run our programme without volunteers! If you would like to volunteer you need to speak to David Marshall to discuss opportunities. Everyone can volunteer to help in some way. Being a Lead volunteer, which is distinct from simply volunteering, is a significant responsibility. This involves additional training and background checks. We also insist that you attend 3 sessions of any group before seeking to become a Lead Volunteer so you become familiar with our way of working. Q– Is attending members meetings compulsory or required? A- No, attendance at members meetings are not required. They are a useful way for you to share the things that are going well, things that could be improved on and make any suggestions you may have for the project. Often they are the first time you will hear about new activities.
Q- How do I know what classes are available? A– We will update this programme of classes at the end of each term to let you know what’s happening next term. This will be available for pick up at reception. You can access the current programme on line at: http://grassmarket.org/get-involved/
