Background and Introduction

Prior to the implementation of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems, organizations

had separate systems to manage financials, orders, fulfillment, accounting, G&L,

procurement, manufacturing, distribution and a host of other functions.

As business evolved and the demand for information increased, it became critically

important to integrate these functions into a single platform that could reduce costs, reduce

complexity and improve efficiencies and competitive advantage.

Fast forward 20 years, and replace ERP financials with IT Planning.

Organizations are struggling to effectively capitalize on today and tomorrow’s IT to solve

business goals and challenges.

This struggle is largely based on fragmented IT processes, limited transparency, lack of

coordination, communication and collaboration and the unavailability of data, information,

trends and results to make effective IT decisions.

As a result, IT costs have accelerated out of control, fragmented IT processes are driving

complexity, innovation has stalled, business lines are ignoring enterprise IT constructs and

time to market is hostage to bureaucracy.

Similar to ERP financials, today’s IT touches everything we do, will do, or aspire

to do and is changing every day.

Government organizations are faced with a number of challenges in today’s fiscally conservative environment

How can we do things faster, cheaper and better than ever before?

How can innovate within constraints and accelerate time to market?

How can we capitalize on strength of our IT workforce to create an Innovative Eco-System

to support the demands of the business?

How can we consolidate and create greater economies of scale?

How can we create transparency across the entire organization to understand what

worked and what didn’t with IT?

What are the IT challenges that are preventing the business from succeeding?

What IT decisions and IT capabilities are “in the works” and how can our business

capitalize on them?

Who are the IT innovators and how can they help us?

How do we remove the barriers of communication to capitalize on lessons learned?

How can we reduce bureaucracy and increase results?

Top 10 Challenges for the Business and IT

Solving these problems isn’t a matter of tools and processes but rather

improving communication and the transparency of information
