Cotswold Water Park Many of the lakes are privately owned by gravel companies, clubs and individuals but a large number of lakes are open for public access and activities. The Cotswold Water Park Trust was set up as a registered charity to improve public access and to make the Cotswold Water Park a better environment for wildlife and people. With a team of staff and volunteers the Trust manages the Gateway Centre, five Nature Reserves, six car parks and many miles of footpaths. We also work with mineral companies, leisure providers, local businesses, councils and communities to create a sustainable future for the Cotswold Water Park. In summer, watch the aerial antics of hobbies as they hunt dragonflies, look for bats skimming the lake surface for flies at dusk, and seek out the magical carpet of wildflowers in the ancient water meadows. On hot sunny days, walk through clouds of blue damselflies near the lake edges, and keep an eye out for nesting grebes. Ducks love it here in the winter too, with 20,000 water birds feeding and breeding on many of the larger lakes. It’s a great place to come in the colder months, with vast skies and superb sunsets. Enjoy the great outdoors, and have some fun along the way. Swing like a monkey, shoot like a cowboy, try rally driving, go paintballing, or learn how to live like Ray Mears – just some of the activities on offer. Keep the younger members of the family happy with a muddy bike ride around the lakes, a summer picnic in one of the country parks, or take a boat trip down the Thames. For the fishermen, why not pick up a day ticket and see if you can catch a record carp or hook a trout or two? But that’s not all – if you still have some energy left, the area also offers cycle hire, golf, horseriding, rare breeds farm, and more...! Activities: Glos Rally School; Combat Splat, Cotswold Canals Trust, Cotswold Forest School, Head4Heights, Lechlade and Bushy Leaze; Old Downs Pursuits; Tackle Den; Whelford Pools.
