Ecuador • Uniendo lazos por un Ecuador sin trabajo infantil Sensibilizar a las autoridades presentes sobre la magnitud de la problemática del trabajo infantil, incidiendo en la articulación intersectorial e interinstitucional para el fortalecimiento de las políticas públicas en favor de niñas, niños y adolescentes entre 5 a 17 años vinculados al trabajo infantil, a fin de que puedan ejercer libremente sus derechos a la educación, salud, recreación, convivencia familiar y comunitaria, entre otros, aunando esfuerzos del sector público y privado, familia y sociedad (Lugar: Quito).

• Incidir para la aplicación de la ordenanza municipal: La Municipalidad del DC aprobó una ordenanza municipal para prohibir el trabajo infantil en los botaderos municipales. Se ha realizado y se continuará recordando la importancia de aplicar la ordenanza a través de una nota a la AMDC (Lugar: espacios con tomadores de decisión)

• Representación de Honduras en el Espacio Marcha Global contra el Trabajo Infantil: Lograr orientaciones que sirvan de insumos para la definición de un plan de trabajo en el marco de las metas de 2025 y el ODS 8 al año 2030 (Lugar: San José, Costa Rica)

• Book launch of the “Child Labour and Youth Work Deficit in Jamaica” that was done through the Understanding Children’s Work Project (Thursday, June 13, 2019, Spanish Court Hotel, commencing at 10:00 a.m.). The Understanding Children’s Work (UCW) Project is an International Labour Organisation (ILO) project on child labour, implemented in collaboration with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and the World Bank. The UCW Project develops policy oriented research and inter-agency country reports focusing on child labour, adolescents’ work and youth employment. The Ministry of Labour and Social Security (MLSS) was approached and discussions ensued which

culminated in the 1st country report for Jamaica, which addresses child labour and youth employment.

• A march from the Ministry’s North Street Office to Saint William Grant Park (Wednesday, June 12, 2019) The march will include students, teachers, MLSS’ staff, National Steering Committee on Child Labour (NASTOCL) members, media as well as the general public. Invitations were sent to the school (12) Principals in the surrounding areas, namely: Holy Trinity, Pentab High, Kingston College, St. Georges College, Kingston Technical High, St. Aloysius Primary, St. Georges for Girls, Holy Family Primary, Allman Town Primary, Calabar Primary, Alpha Primary and High. T-shirts will be printed and given to all participants in the march. To help drive the Programme, a special “selfie” frame will be available for use by the Ministers, PS, staff and the general public to take photos of the day’s events and post on the MLSS’ website, ILO’s website and other social media sites as advocates against child labour.

Jordan The ILO in Jordan is holding a series of activities to mark this year’s World Day Against Child Labour. • The events fall under two projects which address child labour in the country - “Addressing the

Worst Forms of Child Labour - The Jordanian Agriculture Sector,” which is being implemented under the ILO’s Programme of Support to the Jordan Compact as well as the “MAP 16” project, which addresses knowledge gaps on child labour, forced labour, and human trafficking through research, awareness building, policy reform, and capacity building of governments and other members of the tripartite.

• Under “Addressing the Worst Forms of Child Labour - The Jordanian Agriculture Sector”, the ILO held a day of recreational and fun-filled activities on Tuesday (June 11) for children working on farms, to raise awareness on the dangers of child labour in agriculture, as well as the importance of education as a crucial component for individual development and a child’s well-being. The events, brought together over 200 children of different ages and nationalities, including Jordanian and Syrian families, who live and work at farms in the cities of Ramtha and Mafraq, areas which host a large number of Syrian refugees. While the objective of the events was to raise awareness, it offered participating children a day of fun and recreation, filled with a variety of activities tailored to children such as music and performances, as well as games and competitions. It was also an opportunity to hear from the

children and their families what their future aspirations are in relation to education. Children were handed school bags and school stationaries as an encouragement to education. The ILO project, which is funded by the Government of Norway, aims to reduce incidence of child labour in the sector of agriculture, taking into consideration children and their families’ vulnerability.

• Under the “MAP 16” project, artistic performances by youth will be held on Wednesday (June 12)

to advocate against child labour in the country. The youth performers will be children who have experienced child labour and are presently receiving rehabilitative services through the ILO project MAP16, which works to measure, raise awareness, and engage in policy change on the issue of child labour. The event and project are organised by the grassroots community-based organisation, Ruwwad Al-Tanmeya, in close collaboration and coordination with Jordan’s Ministry of Labour, Ministry of Education, and Ministry of Social Development. The event will gather representatives from each of the ministries, as well as local non-governmental and community-based organisations, employers, trade unions, and other United Nations and international non-governmental agencies active in the fight against child labour in Jordan. Two success stories of former working children who received educational, psychosocial, vocational, and recreational rehabilitative services will also be displayed at the event.

The ILO plans the following communications content for the events: • For “Addressing the Worst Forms of Child Labour - The Jordanian Agriculture Sector” related

activities: o A video highlighting the main activities of the events which took place at the two farms,

including interviews with children and their families o This will be accompanied with a press release, which will detail the activities and the project’s

objectives. The press release will also shed light to a survey, recently conducted by the ILO with 89 households including 152 working children in Irbid, Ramtha, Zarqa, Mafraq and Northern Jordan Valley, providing a better insight into the needs of vulnerable children and their families.

o A factsheet highlighting key results from the survey will be published and linked to the press release.

The exhibition of ILO posters intends to demonstrate the long-term engagement of ILO in the world for the fight against CL and the challenges that Tunisia is facing. • A 2-day event in a large tent based on the main street in Tunis (Habib Bourguiba) on 12 and 13

June. This tent will receive the photo exhibition described above, which will be inaugurated by the Chief of Cabinet of the Ministry of Social Affairs (MAS), the Minister being at the ILO Conference at this time. Ministries, UN agencies and US Embassy received invitations for the event, however it is opened to all. As this is a busy and popular area, it is expected that the event will reach many people. 100 children facing various difficulties who are under MAS protection structures will attend SCREAM activities provided by SCREAM trainers, trained by the project. Brochures, promotion items and explanations on child labour will be provided during these two days. A large screen will show ILO videos on child labour and a video of the Minister of Social who delivers a message to Tunisian citizen on child labour. There will be a media coverage of the events. Video will be shot and articles will be produced for this event. • Events in governorates of Jendouba and Sfax: Events will take place in the two governorates where

the project is implementing the child labour monitoring system (CLMS) pilots. Except for the photo exhibition, similar activities implemented in Tunis will also be implemented in these governorates.

Uganda Organised by the Ministry of Gender Labour and Social Development (MGLSD), through its child labour unit, which is the Secretariat of the National Child Labour Steering Committee. Press conference: • A Press conference will take place as one of the pre-World Day activities and a number of top

Media Houses are invited to participate. The Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development is organising the press conference on 7th June 2019, and the Minister of Gender, Labour and Social Development is expected to address it. The press conference will be key in informing and shaping the media conversation regarding the WDACL 2019 celebrations.

Media Coverage • A newspaper supplement will be run in two of the key national newspapers; The Daily Monitor and

the New Vision on 12th June2019, about the WDACL, to help increase awareness in the country. • A radio programme at National level will be run and Radio spot messages on different radios both

at national level and Host District. One Television show will be run at national level. • Printing of WDACL campaign materials • T-Shirts and posters will be locally printed by partners on the theme of the WDACL celebrations

and disseminated to stakeholders. The Main Event on 12th June 2019 • The main event will take place on 12th June 2019 in Busia District where approximately 200 - 300

guests are expected to be in attendance. The event will comprise several activities funded by different stakeholders. The Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development and the host district top political and technical leadership are expected to participate along with other stakeholders including the social partners, members of the National Steering Committee.

• The Federation of Uganda Employers (FUE) is mobilising employers to participate in the main celebration in Busia district. Similarly, the National Organisation of Trade Unions (NOTU) is mobilising the workers to participate.

Local Brass band: • A processional matching through the district with be flagged off to mark the first event of the

day, Children and all key stakeholders taking part in the celebration will join the match led by a local brass in a 30-40 minutes marching before arrival at the main celebration ground.

Child Participation • Planned activities by children will include; drama, songs and skits in relation to the theme of the

WDACL 2019, Testimonies by former child labourers. In addition, children voices are being compiled to produce an online magazine by one of the NGOs.
