OpeningPrepare for assessment
•Clear your desk of everything. •Check to see that you have literature book under your desk.•When called to do so, come and get an I-Respond remote.•You will be told when to log-in.
Work Session1. Carefully enter your answers to the
assessment into your I-respond remote.2. Read the question before reading the
passage. It will give you a focus for the passage.
3. When you complete the assessment, log-out.4. Open your literature book to page 495 and
read “Literary Analysis: Tone” at the top of the page. Skip the next two sections on that page.
5. Read pages 496-500 silently.

• With your partner, analyze the tone of the four different responses from Abby.• Record textual evidence to support
your analysis. • You will have 15 minutes to do this.

• Your “Ticket Out The Door” is to respond to the last Dear Abby letter in a mean tone.
• Write your answer on the index card I give you.
• Underline the words or phrases you are using to imply this tone.
• You will have 5 minutes to do this.
