Monday 16th June Term 3 commences

Donvale Primary School provides students with a positive educational experience to achieve their

potential in a comprehensive learning environment that is caring, secure and stimulating.

Hello from Mrs Clark Hello Everyone,

I would like to begin by saying what an absolute

privilege it is to have been appointed Principal of

Donvale Primary School. I am so excited about this

opportunity and can’t wait to begin the journey with

you all.

I have heard many wonderful things about Donvale

PS, in particular, how wonderful the students,

teachers and community are. I gained a really strong

sense of this on my recent visit to the school where I

was so warmly welcomed by the students and staff. It

was a wonderful first greeting; one that will leave a

lasting impression.

It was terrific to be shown around the school and visit

each classroom to meet all the staff and students. I

was so impressed by everyone I met and everything I

saw. I am very much looking forward to getting to

know everybody and becoming a part of the Donvale

Primary School community.

As you may be aware, I will not be taking up my

position until week 3 in Term 3. I will be taking some

long service leave to travel overseas – a trip that my

husband and I have had booked for some time and are

really looking forward to. I will be very keen to share

my travel stories with you when I return.

I would like to extend a really big thank you to Ian

McKinlay who will be taking on the Acting Principal

role in my absence. I know that the school will

continue to be in very capable hands.

I would also like to express a very warm thank you to

Matt Coney who has been in the Acting Principal role

for the duration of Term 2. Donvale PS has been most

fortunate to have had his support during this time. I

wish Matt all the very best and look forward to our

crossing paths again.

I wish everyone a relaxing holiday and see you all in

Term 3.

Lena Clark

The Assistant Principal

Good Luck Mr. Coney Congratulations to Mr. Matt Coney who has just been

appointed to the Principal position at Scoresby P.S.

Matt will take up this position at the start of term 3

and he leaves Donvale P.S. with our very best wishes

for a successful and rewarding time as Principal of his

new school.

At Donvale P.S. we have been very fortunate to have

had Mr Matt Coney as our Acting Principal for Term 2.

In a short space of time he has become a highly

respected and valued leader throughout the Donvale

school community. A person like Mr Coney reinforces

what we have always known about school leaders and

that is, their most important attribute, is the human

one. Matt Coney has developed a wonderful rapport

with the teaching staff, students and parents at

Donvale. We thank him most sincerely for the help,

guidance and friendship he has provided everyone at

our school this term. It has been a pleasure for us all to

have worked with Matt and we wish him all the very

best at Scoresby Primary School in the years ahead.

Before and After School Care: This is just a short note to inform you about changes to

the Before and After School program, brought about by

the need to renew the contract with OSH at the end of

June.

Over a number of meetings with Jason Bruce (OSH), it

was decided to extend the contract for a further 6

months.

We felt that it was important, to give the new

Principal time to assess the current contract and

background before committing to a new longer term

agreement.

However, in order to extend the contract, Jason

explained that the pricing would need to be reviewed,

as OSH had been running the program at a loss over

the last 15 months.

Although our current numbers are up from an average

8.8 to 11.8 (morning and afternoon), the numbers are

still down from 3 years ago.

This has meant, that to keep the program running for

the remainder of the year, our fees will need to

increase from $15 to $18 in the mornings and $18 to

$21 in the afternoons.

If we are to maintain the program and fee structure in

2013, we will need to increase our numbers to 12/13 in

mornings and 15/16 in the afternoons.

If you have any further questions please contact the school.

Basketball News

Donvale Primary School Drop Off and Pick Up Zone Rules It has come to our attention that we have members of our community not ‘doing the right thing’ when dropping off and picking up children. The drop off zone is not a parking area. No parent is to park their car and leave the vehicle or sit idle for any length of time. There are plenty of other areas to park if you need to leave your vehicle or wait for your child. It is not considerate of others who are waiting in line to pick up their children. If your child is not at the pick up zone, you need to drive around or park your car in the surrounding streets and walk in. There will be staff monitoring the situation and we appeal to all parents to please ‘do the right thing’.

This term went very well. The Junior Chef Room

became a reality, the children and the team helpers

had such a great time together.

Donvale Pizza Ristorante was a success (4 groups, 1

session each). Open Day Activities were also a success

with many complements from prospective families

that visited us.

The Fairy Cupcakes workshop with the prep children

was fantastic.

What a great term with a total of 7 sessions and over

100 children involved.

The little chefs were happy creating and we were also

very happy to share our skills with them.

Next term we are going to be visited by Manningham

City Council and The Leader Newspaper.

Sessions will involve the same groups of children,

everything remains the same just a more challenging

menu.

Many level 4 children came to us and requested an

extra session to create "Curry Puffs" with them.

Hopefully we have extra time to do this.

Special thank you to Val from Croydon for her

donation and support for our school.

Thank you to Donna, Martin, Jaqui, Marita, Erika

and all Prep Staff for helping in the club.

Looking forward to creating food with all our junior

chefs next term.

Have a lovely break.

We don't cook, we create food.
