BORON COMPOUNDS AS WOOD PRESERVATIVES

It is well known that boron compounds are essential for plant growth and for a healthy human diet. Boron compounds are also among the most effective wood preservative agents. Throughout the world borates have been remarkably effective in protecting wood products that are used in interior construction from termites, wood boring beetles, as sawn timber, from attack of timber destroying organisms like wood borere & beetles, termites and decay fungi. The high solubility characteristic of borates allows diffusing throughout the wood's cellular network and provides integral protection.

TMACTIBOR 67 is a high performance wood preservative that has very high boron concentration at maximum possible solubility rate of dissolution in water.

TMACTIBOR 67, based on Di Sodium Octaborate Tetrahydrate is particularly suitable for TMtreatment of timber sections of non-durable species for furniture. ACTIBOR 67 is ideal for

both soft and hardwood which are classified under nondurable species and for sapwood TMportion of the durable hardwoods. ACTIBOR 67 is also used in window/door joineries,

rafters, studding, cladding and for the treatment of composite board materials (e.g. plywood, glulam, particle board).

Although Borates are classified under “water-soluble (leachable) class of wood preservatives”, they mobilize out when wood becomes wet. However, this loss of boron

comes to a serious degree only when treated wood remains thoroughly wet for long periods and has continuous contact with running water or moist.

TMTherefore woods that are treated with ACTIBOR 67 are generally not suitable for total outdoor applications that have direct contact with ground and/or exposed to severe leaching conditions (e.g. cooling tower timber, garden furniture, bridge timber, transmission poles etc.). Treated wood should be protected with a water repellent coating when used for exterior applications such as door/window frames etc.

APPLICATION

TM TMACTIBOR 67 has flexible application methods. It can simply be applied by brush, spray, or dipping/immersion. ACTIBOR 67 can also TMbe applied by vacuum pressure process on dry or green timber. ACTIBOR 67 application does not change the wood's color and

appearance. Treated wood maintains its original appearance and strength.

TMACTIBOR 67 is available in powder form and does not contain any organic and heavy metal component. It has long-term durability & very high solubility. It is usually applied as an aqueous solution and does not require any organic solvents.
