Dear Friends,

Spring is definitely in the air. The days are longer. The sun is shin-ing. The birds are singing. The trees are budding, and the landscape is turning green. It is wonderful to be outside and see all of the signs of new life.

It is also a wonderful time of year in the church as we experience the gift of new life during this Easter season. As we celebrate Christ’s resurrection we can be confident that because Jesus was raised from the dead, we too shall be raised on the last day. Because Christ lives, we too shall live.

This is really what Easter is all about. Because of the empty tomb, death has been defeated once and for all. Death will not have the final word. Death will not be the final answer. Death has been swallowed up. Because Christ has triumphed and been victorious over sin and the devil, in place of death we find new life.

Certainly, death is not something that is unfamiliar to us. We face death throughout our lives. From the second we are born, we begin dying. We face death in many ways: the death of a relationship, the death of a marriage, the loss of employment, an abusive spouse or par-ent, a struggle with addiction, the terminal illness or death of a loved one, or our own impending death.

What the Easter miracle does for us is enable us to see death not as an end in itself, but a beginning, a journey to new life. God in resurrec-tion power is able to bring life out of death, good out of evil, love out of hate, and hope out of despair. God rolls away the stones in our lives to bring to us new life. This helps us to face death, in whatever form it may confront us, with hope, confidence, and the assurance that our destiny as people of faith is to be with God, to live with God, free of pain, suffering, fear, sin, and death for all eternity. That is the gift that the resurrection promise brings to us. That is the good news of Easter.

Easter blessings,

Pastor Dan

Ushers for April

Leah & Matt Claussen Karen & Jon Froehlich Jane Saulsbury Usher/Alter Guild Guide and Duties have been emailed out. There is also a copy on the bulletin board. If you need an extra copy, contact Jan. Please be sure to look at these carefully. We have become a very busy church and there are duties that are needed to be done weekly.

Easy Cheesy Chicken Casserole

Winning Casserole Bake-off Recipe

Serves 8 to 12

3 to 4 cooked chicken breasts, chopped 16-oz. pkg. wide egg noodles, cooked 24-oz. container sour cream 2 (10 3/4-oz.) cans cream of chicken soup 8-oz. pkg. shredded Cheddar cheese 8-oz. pkg. shredded mozzarella cheese 1 sleeve buttery crackers, crushed (ritz, town house, etc.) 1/4 cup margarine, melted 2 tablespoons poppy seed (optional) Combine chicken, noodles, sour cream, soup and cheeses in a large bowl. Pour into a lightly greased 13"x9" baking dish. Mix together cracker crumbs and margarine; sprinkle over top. Sprinkle poppy (optional) seed over cracker crumbs. Bake at 350 degrees for 25 to 30 minutes or until crackers are crispy and golden and cheese is melted.

** The night before the bake-off, I baked the chicken breasts in the oven with salt, pepper, garlic pow-der and light olive oil. I mixed all the ingredients together, except for the butter and crackers. I put the mixture in the 9 x 13 lightly buttered dish, covered it with aluminum foil and put it in the refrigerator. The next morning, I revised the baking regime to the following: I put the “covered” casserole in a pre-heated 350° for one-half hour. After one-half hour, take casserole from oven and remove the alumi-num foil. I carefully stirred the edges of the casserole. Finally I sprinkled the butter/cracker crumbs on top. (Again, I did not use the poppy seeds.) I returned the casserole to the oven and baked it for an additional 25-30 minutes until crackers were crispy and golden.

Bon appetite !!

More information will be forthcoming.
