ACT IIChapter 20
Verses 1-6 speak of a period of a thousand years. Two major events happen for this thousand year period.
First appears an angel.
ACT IIChapter 20
The angel has A chain A key to the abyss He binds the dragon, puts him
in the pit and locks it shut for a thousand years.
Revelation 20The Thousand Years
The dragon—Satan—is bound for a thousand years.
He has always been bound or limited by God.
Job, Matt. 12:44, Col. 2:15.
Revelation 20The Thousand Years
So now Satan is to be bound or limited again.
He cannot again deceive the nations into becoming his agent to destroy the church by persecution.
Revelation 20The Thousand Years
Souls reign with Christ for a thousand years.
Who are these souls?Did not worship the beastDid not receive His markGave their lives for their testimony.
Revelation 20The Thousand Years
Note these verses when these souls have been seen before: 6:9; 7:13-14; 14:1-4; 15:2-3; 19:2, 14.
Who reigns with Christ? The martyrs of the Roman
persecution.
Revelation 20The Thousand Years
These are in the status of “souls.” Thus they are between death and resurrection.
Revelation 20The Thousand Years
Why do they reign?Their bravery has helped the church to survive.
Their enemy has just gone down to defeat.
So they are celebrating their victory.
Revelation 20The Thousand Years
Where do they reign? Martyrs have been in heaven
since 6:9 Christ has been in heaven
since chapter 5 All thrones are in heaven
except throne of beast
Revelation 20The Thousand Years
“Souls” are in heaven for they have no human body
So the souls reign with Christ in heaven
Revelation 20The Thousand Years
When do they reign? Chapter 19 ends with the fall of
Rome so that is where Chapter 20 and the thousand years begins.
Revelation 20The Thousand Years
Chapter 20 ends with the final judgment.
Only the “short time” separates the end of the thousand years from the end of time.
Revelation 20The Thousand Years
So the thousand years spans the period from the fall of Rome to shortly before the end of the world.
Revelation 20The Short Time
Satan is released from the pit. Satan seeks to harm the
church again—he has not changed.
God intervenes before Satan appears to harm the church
Revelation 20The Short Time
Satan is sent into the Lake of fire
Where he will be tormented day and night forever and ever.
Revelation 20The Final Judgment
John sees God on a great white throne.
All the dead—great and small—appear before Him
The dead are judged from the record of their deeds
Revelation 20The Final Judgment
Those written in the Book of Life, however, are acquitted.
Ex. 32:33; Psalm 69:28; Luke 10:20; Phil. 4:3 and Rev. 3:5 tell who is in the Book of Life.
