The CoC and ACS CAN
The CoC’s advocacy objective is to work with the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN) in the area of legislative and regulatory advocacy.
ACS CAN is a grassroots member organization that gives cancer advocates the opportunity to shape legislative agendas to ensure that they include important cancer issues.

The Goals of the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network
Making Cancer a Top National Priority by:
• Pressing key decision makers in the U.S. Congress to make ACS CAN’s legislative initiatives their priorities
• Continuing to work with gubernatorial and state legislative candidates to address our issues
• Supporting efforts to increase tobacco taxes, pass smoke-free laws, and advance other mission objectives
• Educating candidates about the importance of increasing cancer programs and research funding as well as the importance of a plan for affordable and accessible health care

NC enacted a smoke-free restaurant and bar law, effective 1-2-10. WI enacted a 100% smoke-free workplace, restaurant and bar law, effective 7-5-10. SD’s smoke-free restaurant and bar law was to be effective 7-1-09, but has been suspended to the Nov. 2010 ballot.
