WHAT IS DAB?DAB radio wil l change the way that people listen to radio over the nextfew years. You wil l probably not beaware thatdigital radio wil l become mandatory in the future asthe terrestrial radio frequencies which you currently l isten to wil lbe reallocated for other uses such asemergency services. This means that today you are one ofthe pioneers usingthis technology, however ina short space oftime everybody wil l benefit from clear digital radio.Digital radio offers an abundance of new digital only stations and improved sound quality. There are no frequenciesto remember sothe ICS100 can betuned by searching through station names. The audio quality of DAB isnear thatof a CD with virtually no interference and noretuning. DAB is also enhanced with DLS (Digital Label Segment), thisis data transmitted by the station which may include information about the station, program or song (see page 16).The BBC was the pioneer of digital radio, beginning transmissions in September 1995. Digital One,the national commercial radio multiplex operator, began broadcasting in November 1999. There hasbeen a growth in the number of digital radio stations throughout the UK and both the BBC and DigitalOne are commi tted to extending thei r coverage. Dig ital One current ly covers 80% of the UK popu la ti on ,soon to increase to 85%, and the BBC covers 65% with the aim of increasing coverage to 80% by 2005.There are currently over 350 DAB stations operating inthe UK including the following:BBC stations:Radio 1,2,3 ,4 , 5 ,6 ,7

    Commercial stations:Capital RadioPlanet RockX-FMVirgin

    1XtraAsian Network

Your ICS100 wil l receive DAB programs broadcast on Band 3 digital radio (174-240MHz). There are a total of41channels within this range numbered 5Ato 13F,the number of channels you can receive wil l be dependant on yourlocation and signal strength. The UK has been allocated seven multiplexes bythe Radio Authority - inthe spectrum217.5-230.0 MHz,which are numbered 11Bto 12D.A multiplex is a broadcaster such as BBC National DAB or Digital One who wil l provide a host of different stationswithin their multiplex. Ifwe consider the BBC as an example, the following diagram shows how the BBC multiplexmay work.Below the main multiplex provider (in this case 'BBC National DAB') wil l bea number of primary stations. These arelabelled with the station name (e.g Radio 2) rather than the frequency. This allows you totune the ICS100 bystation

name, which is easier than trying to recall fSometimes a secondary service statiosometimes used when an alternativesecondary service stations are not pesecondary station is available below thes ta ti on name. A secondary stat ion can b(see page X).Details on how to use the ICS 100 are cove

    2. CLEAN THE GLASS AREAPOD FITTING INSTRUCTIONS

Use the other 3M cleaning sachet provided for this function, againensuring that the glass surface is completely dry before procedingto the next stage.

Once you have decided on the optimum location, itwill be necessaryto clean the glass asyou did before for the antenna.

    3. AFFIX 3M VHB PADTO GLASSWe would advise that this operation iscarried out inside in a building where the ambient temperature ismaintained.3M VHB pads cure most effectively between a temparature range of 21-38 degrees centigrade. The effectivenessofthe bond ofthis pad wil l be reduced ifthe bracket isintalled in either very cold conditions, or conversely verywarm conditions.Itis not recommended to apply the adhesive pad to surfaces with a temperature of 10degrees centigrade or lower.Ensure that the POD isremoved form the mounting bracket.Take the mounting bracket and peel off the 3M sticker backing to reveal the 3M VHB adhesive surface. From your earlier investigation place the mounting bracket against the glass inthe desired location. Apply sufficientforce tothe bracket to ensure the 3M pad maintains complete coverage against the glass.

DO NOT RE-FIT THE POD AT THIS STAGE

    4. ALLOW THE 3M VHB PADTO CUREAs the mounting bracket has to support thetime to cure adequately.

    5. MAKE ADJUSTMENTS TOTHE BRAC

We would suggest that at least 24 hours isalthough full strength will be achieved after

As before, itmaybe necessary to adjust theprovide the final fixing position.Note: it is no t necessary to completel y reenough to al low the geared teeth to movThese areas contain spr ings and are undinternal pressure of these spr ings wil l c

    6. FIT THE REMOTE POD TO THE BRAC

After the 3M adhesive pads have fullycured, it is necessary to slide the POD ontothe mounting bracket. It is easier to standoutside of the vehicle looking through thewindscreen to ensure the POD registerscorrectly with the corresponding silde onthemounting bracket.
