The absorptive silencer is the classic dissipative design,obtaining its noise control properties from the basic factthat noise energy is effectively "absorbed" by varioustypes of fibrous packing materials.

Good Silencers for High FrequenciesAbsorptive silencers are very effective on high frequen-cies (500-8,000 Hz). At frequencies above and below thisrange, attenuation performance progressively diminishes.Since noise is absorbed by the packing material, ab-sorptive silencers do not rely on internal plates, tubesor other restrictive devices to achieve noise reduction.Consequently, absorptive silencers generally employ a"straight-through" or similar internal designs which in-flicts very little air flow restriction.

Vent silencers are used in conjunction with systems thatutilize a pressure relief valve. Universal Silencer's vent si-lencers are used all over the globe on many applications.

HV Series vent silencers effectively silence high-velocityair, steam, and gas vents and blowdowns to atmospherewhere sonic or critical conditions exist in the valve. Typ-ical applications include: steam boiler relief valves, su-perheater header relief valves, boiler startup and purge,high-pressure air vents, natural gas blowdowns, switchvalves, compressor blowoffs, autoclaves and steam ejec-tors.

Universal Silencer exhaust silencers provide the most fa-vorable performance for all applications by offering si-lencers crafted for four different attenuation grades –industrial, residential, critical and hospital. Due to thevariability of different applications, performance levelsare most accurately shown as broad range "expectedattenuation bands," which are based upon typical con-ditions. These bands will not define the exact insertionloss for a specific application, since insertion loss is in-fluenced by engine size, type, speed and untreated noiselevels.

Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) systems are used totreat NOx emissions created by natural gas lean andrich burn engines and turbines and diesel engines. Se-lective Catalytic Reduction systems are one of the morecomplex emission treatment products on the markettoday. The complexity comes from the advanced controltechnology required to ensure optimum system per-formance as treatment needs are highly dependent onthe engines real time operation.

Universal Emission Technologies offers NOx treatmentusing an innovative PLC-based Urea dosing system withfeedback control and analysis. Each system can be of-fered as skid-mounted, turn-key, or as a custom inte-grated system. The SCR system treats 90% of NOxemissions. The modular design also allows oxidation cat-alyst elements to be incorporated into a single, commonreactor housing, greatly reducing assembly and installa-tion complexity.
