Acle St Edmund C of E Primary School 7 June 2019 Headteacher: Mr Paul Henery School Play – Snow White We hope all of you who came to watch the KS2 production of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (based on the Roald Dahl version of events) enjoyed the show on Wednesday evening at Acle Academy. The children and their teachers had worked really hard to put on this performance and were rightly pleased with how things went on the night. Well done to absolutely everyone involved! Year 6 children will receive a free copy of the DVD as part of their leavers gifts from FOSA next Wednesday. If any other parents would like a copy for £3 please speak to Mrs Bruce in the office (NB. Copies won’t be available until September). Sailing Club Well done to all the pupils who attended this year’s sailing club at Filby Broad with Mrs Welch. They clearly had a great time on the water, learning and practising their sailing skills under the supervision of Norfolk School Sailing Association. We very much hope that they will continue to sail and enjoy this wonderful pastime as they grow up, particularly as we live in such a beautiful area for water sports. All of the pupils involved received their course certificates on Wednesday this week. We aim to run this course again next year as the response has once again been so positive. ATTENDANCE Our target school attendance figure is 97% Our current figure is…96.03% Year 6 Leavers Assembly There will be a Leavers Assembly for our Year 6 pupils on Tuesday 23 July in the school hall at 2.30pm, which we and the children would love parents to attend. This will be followed by teas, coffees and biscuits in the hall for the children and their parents. Awards next week We shall be giving out our Roy Coppack award for Citizenship next week, as well as merit certificates and the progress cups for KS1 and KS2. Children were asked to nominate candidates for the Roy Coppack award last week, thinking about how children have been showing responsibility, initiative, care and concern for others and working for the good of the school. There have been lots of pupils nominated by their peers, showing that so many of our pupils are really good citizens at school and care very much about others as well as themselves.

END OF TERM DISCOS It's that time again!

Monday 22 July KS1 disco 5 - 6.30pm and KS2 7 - 8.30pm

We charge an entry fee of £1 to cover the cost of the entertainer and we have a snack bar so please send your child with lots of small change in a named purse/wallet or secure pocket. We will also be offering face painting for a small fee.

Please remember that while we take responsibility for signing children in and out, we are not offering a child minding service between discos so, if you have children attending both discos you will need to collect the younger ones at 6.30pm and not leave them waiting for you to arrive with older children at 7pm. We also do not feel it is necessary for parents/carers to stay during the discos as space is limited, unless your child has a specific need for you to do so. Teachers and classroom assistants will be present. me

Year 1 and 2 Judaism report

Year 1 and 2 have been learning about Judaism over the last couple of weeks. So far, we have learned about Shabbat, Hanukkah and Passover.

Shabbat starts on a Friday night and finishes on a Saturday night. It is the Jewish day of rest. Families have a Shabbat Meal to celebrate.

This is challah bread. It is a part of a Shabbat Meal. It is plaited to show that God is always in our lives.

Hanukkah celebrates the miracle where a small pot of oil kept the menorah candles alight for eight days instead of one.

Passover is celebrated in Spring to remember the story of the Hebrew slaves escaping from Egypt. A Passover Seder Meal has different foods to help Jewish people remember this story.

On a Seder plate is: Horseradish and bitter lettuce – represent suffering Parsley dipped in salty water – slaves’ tears and sweat Charoset (apples) – symbol of the bricks and mortar used to build the

pyramids Egg – festival offering A shank bone – to show the sacrifice of the lambs.

Assembly

As part of our series of assemblies focusing on the value of Perseverance, Genevieve wrote this acrostic poem, to sum up what she felt this value really means: is for power - to overcome any obstacle

is for energy - to be ready

is for repetitive - to never end

is for smile – positive thoughts

is for enthusiasm – keep being happy

is for valour – be brave for what lies ahead

is for encouragement – to carry on

is for ready – to try again

is for effort – never give in!

FOSA need the following empty for the science day in October:

Jars with lids (jam jar size)

Milk bottle lids (just lids)

Water bottles (1 ½ or 2 litre)

Quite a lot are needed so please collect over the summer and bring in to school in September

Equipment for KS2 pupils in September Children in KS2 are expected to have a sensibly sized pencil case, with a small ruler, pencil, pencil sharpener and eraser, for September. Whilst we provide the basics for school use, we do expect pupils to be responsible for these belongings, and to bring them to each lesson.

A reminder about school uniform requirements for September:

All pupils are expected to wear school uniform and to present themselves well – we believe that the wearing of school uniform creates a sense of identity and also gives pupils a greater sense of equality. Pupils should wear grey/black trousers, skirts or tunics with blue or white polo shirts or blouses and navy blue sweatshirts or cardigans. Socks and tights should be plain coloured. It is important that the children wear sensible, flat shoes for safety in school and on play equipment such as the trim trail.

Fashion clothing, jewellery or footwear is not appropriate and should not be worn. Make up, including nail varnish, should not be worn. Other colours (such as grey and black) for cardigans and sweatshirts are NOT acceptable.

Pupils not wearing the correct uniform on more than one occasion will be given a short letter to give to parents, and will be expected to come to school the next day with the correct clothing

Games and PE reminders

Pupils will also be expected to have appropriate Games and PE clothing on the correct days. The exact days will be confirmed in September, for each class.

We expect all pupils to participate fully in our comprehensive sports curriculum each week, and to wear suitable clothing. Plain shorts, school PE t-shirts / sports tops and plimsolls/trainers are needed for PE. In cold weather, tracksuits and sweaters are also needed for outdoor PE.

PE clothing should be in a bag kept on your child’s peg or in your child’s locker. Our uniform service sells draw strung bags designed for this purpose.

Price increases

Tuck From September 2019 KS2 Tuck prices will increase to 25p for a food item and 25p for a drink (max of one item of each may be purchased each day). If you wish, you can send tuck money for the week on a Monday for your child to give to the tuck shop and they will then provide tuck every day for that week.

Meals KS2 school meals will also increase, to £2.30 per day (£11.50 per week) from September 2019. Preferred payment for school meals is online, by using online banking through your own bank (see the office for information) or cheque. Any cash must be in a named envelope.

We are pleased to have been awarded the School Games (sports) Silver Award again for this academic year

Scarab

beetles

Year 3 and 4 have been making scarab beetles out of clay and decorating them with pearlescent paint and jewels in their D&T lessons over the last few weeks. We think they look great!
