DO NOW

Using your knowledge of acids and bases, predict what will happen when a dilute acid is dropped on limestone (calcium carbonate)

Conclusion

Burning the match head released chemicals like _______________ dioxide and

carbon dioxide. These chemicals dissolve in water to form __________________

solutions.

A similar thing happens when _____________ fuels are burnt in power stations

and vehicles. Rain is naturally acidic (~pH 5.0) but human activities have

made it worse.

Acid rain causes problems by increasing the rate of erosion of buildings and

______________. It can lead to the death of trees by damaging their ___________

and limiting the nutrients they can extract from the soil. Acid rain has been

known to poison entire lakes in some parts of Scandinavia.Statues Acidic LeavesFossil Sulphur
