MAM College Jammu on 8th Oct-2013 and were awarded second prize 2. Sonakshi Malhotra, Akanksha Verma & Deepika Sharma (B.Sc. Part-I), Minakshi Sharma & Shivanjali Sharma (BA Part-II), Nisha Kumari, Isha Sharma, Rupali and Risha Verma (BA Part-I) got second prize in Folk dance competition in “Jaano Apna Desh” Jashne Virasat function held at Govt. College for Women Gandhinagar, Jammu on 13th Jan-2013. Display Your Talent (2014-15) 1 Ms. Rakshita Sharma, Ms. Radhika, Ms. Divya Jyoti, Ms. Shikha Jamwal, Ms. Kritika Sharma and Ms. Kiran Bala participated in Western Group Solo event held on 24-09- 2014. The students got Certificate of Merit in Western Group Sonp competition conducted by University of Jammu. Activities Annual Report for the Session 2016-17

Charity begins at home this is the proverb we all should follow to keep our country

clean. This is the message of our honorable Prime Minister Sh. Narinder Modi on the

start of SWACHH BHARAT ABHIYAAN but success of this mission depends upon our

efforts only. Striding on the motive to aware and inform students as well as civil society

of Udhampur regarding the benefits of cleanliness and hygiene, the NSS wing of Govt.

College for Women Udhampur organised the three days workshop on Swachhata and its Importance w.e.f. 02-10- 2016 to 04-10- 2016. On the first day NSS volunteers

took pledge for neither to litter and nor to let litter. Along with that volunteers also

launched a cleanliness drive across the length and breadth of the campus. On the

second day a swachhata rally was organised by the volunteers through the udhampur

town for awaring the people regarding swachhata and its utmost significance for the

health of India as a nation. The rally was flagged off by Prof. K.S. Koushal, Principal

GCW Udhampur. The volunteers conveyed the message of swafigiri to the citizenry

throughout the town.

On the culminating day a symposium was held on the topic of the workshop. A total number of nine volunteers participated. Among the jury members were Dr. Shalini

Sharma, Dr. Harshdev Singh and Prof. Sanjay Kumar. Parul stood first in the

competition. Naina Sharma and Saiba stood second while Bhawani Gogna was

rewarded third position. Besides, the volunteers also presented acultural programme.

On the sidelines of volunteers’ participation a few of the faculty members also endorsed

the idea of cleanliness of the surroundings and purity of thoughts inside. In empirical

terms both complement each other and hence integral to human personality. In his

valedictory address Prof. K.S. Koushal, chief guest of the occasion threw light on

Mahatma Gandhi’s philosophy and related his thought to the present scenario for utter

need of cleanliness. He also exhorted upon the inevitable necessity to keep the

surroundings and society clean. The whole enterprise was organised by Dr. Mool Raj

and Prof. Swarna Bhougal, NSS programme officers of GCW Udhampur.

On 26 November 2016 NSS wing of Govt. College for Women Udhampur organised a function on “Observance of Constitution day.” The function began with the traditional

lighting of the lamp by the chief guest of the occasion Prof. K.S.Koushal, Principal GCW

Udhampur and other faculty members present on the occasion. Welcome address was

delivered by Prof. Sanjay Kumar; NSS programme officer of the college. Thereafter

Miss Bhawani Gogna read out the Preamble along with other members present over

there. Prof. Swarna Bhougal spoke on the occasion and she highlighted the significance

of Fundamental Rights and Duties. Subsequently, Prof. K.S.Koushal expressed his

views on the Topic of the day. He exhorted upon the Fundamental Rights and Duties

enshrined in the constitution and particularly emphasized that the Fundamental Duties

should have extra edge over Fundamental Rights.

NSS units of Government College for women also took various initiatives in the current session, under the umbrella notion of “Ek Bharat Shreshta Bharat”. We have

prepared a banner inscribed with the slogan “Ek Bharat Shreshta Bharat” under the

national campaign of national integration. The banner has been displayed on the main

corridor of the college. Our institution is eager and feel honored doing such exercise

which is indeed instrumental in inculcating integral character of India as a nation

amongst students and faculty members.

Two NSS volunteers namely Bhawani Gogna and Seema Khajuria along with one

escort Swarna Bhougal, NSS programme officer of our college have attended the National level adventure camp at Atal Bihari Vajpayee Institute of Mountaineering and allied Sports Manali – 175131 HP w.e.f 21-10- 2016 to 30-10-2016 and acquired

proficiency in elementary skills of Rock Climbing, Rappelling, River Crossing, Tracking,

Mountain Rescue Method, Survival, Social Awareness and Leadership. The Adventure

training was also conducted in the backwoods of the Himalayas trekked 85 km and

attained 12500 ft height.

Earlier a National level adventure camp was also attended by 4 NSS volunteers viz.

Simran Singh Anthal, Osheen Rajput, Niharka Jamwal and Bhawani Gogna along with

one escort Swarna Bhougal, NSS programme officer w.e.f. 11 th of Aug. to 20 th of Aug,

2015 at Macleodganj , Dharmshala HP at Atal Bihari Vajpayee Institute of

Mountaineering and allied Sports HP. We trekked 66 km and attained 10300 ft height.

NSS units of Govt. College for Women Udhampur also organized a 7 days NSS ANNUAL CAMP w.e.f 29/12/2016 to 04/01/2017. Sh. Hans Raj Shastri from Bhartiya

Yoga Sansthan (Udhampur ikaai) presented his lecture on Yoga and its significance

followed by practical demonstration of different yogic asans. He emphasized upon the

theoretical understanding as well as practically performing different asans prescribed in

Indian Yoga School of Thought.

In the course of the camp several lectures were arranged on various topics (Gender

laws, digital payment, solid waste management and health related issues). Besides,

volunteers launched a cleanliness drive and other allied activities (making flower beds

and painting trees etc.) required for the facelift of the college. On the sidelines of the

camp volunteers also paid visits to the adopted village (Sail-sallen) and Jagriti oldage

home/bal ashram.

NSS units of Govt. College for Women Udhampur organized a symposium in the

backdrop of Celebration of National Girl Child Day on 24th January 2017. Almost

Eleven participants participated in the event and all of them were marvelous in their

contents and presentation. The jury members were Dr. Ashok Kumar, Dr. Parveen

Kumari and Dr. Rabia Iqbal. Parul oberoi stood first, Harsrijan Kour and Bhwani Gogna

stood second in the symposium whereas Ishtha Singh held third position.

On 16 feb 2017 we in collaboration with Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Narayana Super Speciality Hospital, Katra organised a lecture on BASIC LIFE SUPPORT (BLS) whereby a team of doctors from Department of emergency (Medicine) discussed the

systematic method and modus operandi for basic life support. They exhorted upon the

algorithmic approach for BLS. They also highlighted the utter relevance and significance

of saving lives through Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR). More than 200

Volunteers were present on the occasion. All of them were informed and enlightened

with the intent and content of the topic of the day. Volunteers performed the technique

of Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation CPR methodically in front of the experts and

realized it to be beneficial in day to day life.

On 21-06- 2017 NCC wing and NSS units of Govt. College for Women Udhampur

organized a lecture and Yoga session with regard to the celebration of World Yoga Day on June 21, 2017. The function formally began by the lighting of the traditional

lamp by Dr. Chander Shekhar, Principal Govt. College for Women Udhampur and Sh.

Hansraj Shastri and Sh. Chhaju Ram Khajuria, Bhartiya Yoga Santhana, Udhampur

ikaai, Udhampur. Besides chief guest also exhorted upon the utter significance of Yoga

and how it is indispensable in rendering our health predicament better. Specifically, he

focused upon the traditional wisdom of Yoga in the world in general and in India in

particular. Sh. Hansraj Shastri and Sh. Chhaju Ram Khajuria, resource person of the

day briefed the NSS volunteers/NCC cadets with the function and improtance of Yoga.

Thereafter, he explicated the technique of doing aasans and pranayama and also made

the volunteers to do along.

In the backdrop of “OBSERVANCE OF SWACHHTA PAKHWARA” w.e.f. 01 Aug 2017 to 15 Aug 2017 NSS units of Govt. College for Women Udhampur organized a one day seminar on the said topic. The audience was formally welcomed by Dr. Chander Shekhar and alongwith that he appealed the volunteers to inculcate the idea of Swachhta as one of the virtures in their respective life-worlds. Sh. Hansraj Shastri, secretary Bhartiya Yoga Santhan, Udhampur Ikaai was the speaker/resource person of the day. He explicated upon the utter significance of Swachhta in our daily lives. Moreover he also insisted that we should have the sense of cleanliness at the level of body and therefore purity at the level of mind. Both of them complement each other.

thought, word and action which makes an individual a true human being and an
