Speaking task 1 TIME About 4 minutes INTERACTION T Learner A; T Learner B PROCEDURE 1 Read the following rubric to both learners: ‘First I want to ask you some general questions.’ 2 Ask questions 1–3 to learner A. 3 Ask questions 4–6 to learner B. 4 Ask questions 7–9 to either or both learner, as appropriate. 1 What’s your name? How do you spell that? 2 Where are you from? 3 Do you live in a house or a flat? 4 What’s your name? How do you spell that? 5 Where are you from? 6 Do you have a job? 7 Tell me about your town. 8 What do you do every day? 9 What food and drinks do you like? Speaking task 2 TIME About 4 minutes INTERACTION Learner A Learner B PROCEDURE 1 Give one learner card A and give the other learner card B. Learners read their card and think about what to say. Then say ‘Now I want you to imagine the situation on the paper. Read the instructions for one minute and think about what you can say.’ 2 When the learners are ready, invite Learner A to initiate the conversation and allow the conversation to continue for one or two minutes, prompting when necessary. 3 When they have finished the conversation, ask learners when and where they want to meet. 4 End the test by saying: ‘Thank you. That is the end of the test.’
