About INtel College

INtel College has been established since 1990. Our partnership with our key partner, the University of Sunderland, UK goes back to 2000 demonstrating maturity and proven results in delivery of education at international standards.

Our college campus, based in Westlands, at the end of General Mathenge Road, is a custom-built campus. The continuous developments of the college learning facilities are stimulated by new technologies and a clear understanding of the 21st century learning experience. The campus offers facilities that incorporate modern technologies, that include fast internet services, and interactive technologies for teaching. INtel offers a vibrant campus atmosphere, located in a beautiful quiet and serene environment that is safe and conducive to learning.

The quality of teaching at INtel is informed by pedagogical research, as well as by employers, to ensure that students studying here are equipped with skills required to succeed

in a highly competitive graduate job market. Extracurricular activities are designed to build confidence, while teaching students to lead and work within teams. The BSc (Hons) Applied Business Computing Degree programme equips its graduates with the knowledge and abilities to enter into the business computing context working within project teams in large IT departments or specialist IT companies and software enterprises. Graduates will enter employment as developers, with appropriate knowledge and skills in the development and evaluation of business systems and user experiences.

On the academic side, students will study approaches to research, including appropriate methodologies, data collection and analysis, while developing evidence-based action plans. To develop practical skills, students will undertake a major hands-on project that involves developing a working solution to a particular problem. Students are able to take advantage of professional level developer software and advanced hardware that INtel provides through accreditations with Microsoft and other major companies. A module on “Project Management”

will prepare students for working within project teams in IT departments or specialist IT companies. Further modules include Product Development, Web Database Information Systems for Business, and User Experience Design.

Students on the University of Sunderland Programmes at INtel College benefit from access to the university’s online library. This includes access to e-books, journals and databases offering academic and industry articles. In addition, the college offers students an opportunity to borrow the essential text for courses, under the college book loan programme.

ASSESSMENT on the UNIVERSITY OF SUNDERLAND PROGRAMME at INTEL COLLEGEAssessments which are set by the university include assignments, case studies, portfolios etc. Assessments are set and marked by the University.

The college offers free access to wifi from anywhere on the campus; Classrooms are digitally-enhanced for both student use and teaching. Modern computer labs provide opportunity for collaborative and group work.

Course sessions are facilitated at INtel College by Sunderland- approved tutors/facilitators and are offered twice per week in the evenings and/or on Saturday mornings. This makes it convenient for working professionals. Staff based at the University in the UK also facilitate sessions either by Skype or at visits to the college. A comprehensive virtual learning environment (VLE) is an online learning platform for all registered students to access learning materials and a comprehensive suite of tools and technologies to support learning

Students studying at INtel College on the University of Sunderland Programme fall within University regulations. Successful students who complete their programme of study will achieve a degree awarded by the University.

The degree that students achieve is exactly the same degree that a student studying at the main campus in Sunderland would receive. Students can graduate in Nairobi or choose to attend the ceremony at the University of Sunderland in the UK.

THE DEGREE GRADUATION BECOMING AN ALUMNI

The BA (Hons) Business Management degree programme prepares graduates to work in managerial and professional roles in sales, finance, general business and the public sector.

Students will undertake broad-based modules related to project management, strategic management accounting, contemporary business developments, human resource management and marketing strategies. Within marketing, students will look at strategic dimensions of the subject, covering conventional approaches, as well as digital aspects of marketing. The curriculum will also evaluate a range of marketing communication techniques and methods, in order to review consumer perspectives in terms of buying behaviour. Within Project Management, analysis of recent projects and assessment of their operation against a number of key criteria such as risk, design and control will be evaluated.

We also offer bridging courses for students who may be studying on a particular programme and wish to gain a better understanding of the subject, learning at their own pace. The bridging courses vary from GCSE IT, to university level subjects. Customized courses and teaching, suit the student’s learning needs and pace, developing a student’s confidence.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT COURSESINtel offers several courses over 4 to 6 weeks, part time, for your professional development. Our list of Professional Development courses are:

1. The International Computer Driving License ( ICDL ) Course - An internationally-certified globally-recognized IT skills course. ICDL serves as a pre-university course for IT skills competence, and provides computer skills necessary in the work place.

2. Programming - From basic concepts of programming, to in-depth programming skills in several languages. We teach you how to think and code, in an easy way, all the way to expert level

3. Graphics Design - Learn computerized design skills to create visual and textual content for print matter such as posters, advertisements, packages, magazines etc. Students build portfolios in class as they develop their abilities in design work.

4. Web Page Design - Learn how to conceptualize, plan, build, manage and secure web sites. Our courses build from basics of web design with HTML to advanced webpage-building techniques. Learn layouts, writing and managing web content. Our other courses include learning how to manage websites, and include web programming, security of websites and e-commerce portals through our courses such as CGI, scripts, and programmes

5. Computerized Accounting - Our courses run from theory of book-keeping and accounts, to the use of Computerized accounting packages, for effective management of company accounts and financial reporting.

6. IT Technical Support - Our courses cover IT set-ups, maintenance, troubleshooting problems, safeguarding data, virus control and managing internet connections.

7. Networking - A practical course on fundamentals of computer communication, setting up internet access, connecting and configuring hardware devices, both local and wide area networks, and the wireless versions.
