It’s a mini town by itself, spread across 120 acres of green verdant land in Bangalore. Located at a few minutes drive from the top notch multinational companies and Indian Corporates, it rests atop a raised scenic spot, surrounded by gentle and gradient landforms. The design of the campus is very student centric, predominantly pedestrian with vehicular traffic secluded from the learning zones. The Academic, Residential, Student Activity and Landscaped Zones of the campus are interestingly integrated with one another. The class rooms are large, airy and well lit, tucked away from noise. The Student Activity Centre in contrast is compact, cheerful and engaging. The laboratories are designed to enable conducting of experiments, ensure hygiene and prevent accident hazards. The campus’s sports and cultural facilities are extensive. The awesome 10000+ seating stadium enables track and field events, football, cricket, cultural events and mega music shows; the amphitheaters and other facilities for indoor games inspire the students into extra-curricular activities. The concern for environment is deeply rooted in the design, through extensive afforestation of land, rain water harvesting, creating of an artificial lake of 4 acres, water treatment, use of alternative energy sources, ban on use of environment harming substances, etc. ACHARYA I NSTITUTES Soldevanahalli, Hesaraghatta Main Road, Bengaluru 560 090, Karnataka, India Ph: +91-80-6451 7317, 2839 6011, 2837 6431 Fax: +91-80-2370 0242 Email: [email protected] URL: www.acharya.ac.in Venue Details The Workshop will be conducted in the Seminar Hall, MBA Block, Acharya Institutes Campus, Bangalore. About SPA and BEM

The School of Planning and Architecture came into existence in 1942 through the efforts of Walter George and his colleagues, involved in the New Delhi Project of British India and who chose to stay back in India. Starting at, Delhi Polytechnic, the institution became the Deemed University in 1979. Today, SPA offers 12 Masters level degrees, 2 undergraduate level degrees and involved in research and consultancy. Established in 1979, the Department of Building Engineering and Management is one of the first departments to offer Master’s degree in the specialization of Building Engineering and Construction Management.

About Acharya Institutes & Acharya School of Architecture

Acharya Institutes is truly emerging as the nurturing ground for leadership. The sprawling 120 acre campus of Acharya offers excellent practical learning ambience to the students of architecture. From the year 2009, an independent School of Architecture offering a 5-year Bachelor of Architecture has been started. It is proposed to develop the

institution as a centre of excellence for studies & research in the ambit of built environment.

The campus is a cluster of manifestations of various ideas in architecture - encompassing construction, conveniences, traffic, landscape, communication, environmental concerns, academics, sports, shows and events, congregations, etc. The wide range of Acharya academics encompasses

Engineering, Technology, Life Sciences, Pharmacy, Nursing, Teaching, Journalism, Communication, Fashion Design, etc. and has drawn aspiring youth from every part of India and some fifteen countries abroad.

Workshop Details

The Sustainable Built Environment workshop has been structured and developed to orient professional Architects and Engineers towards the theory and practice of sustainable building design and construction. Amidst the Global Warming, the grays and reds of Climate Change see a hope in sustainable built environment through “Green Building” design and construction. The course provides a comprehensive coverage on the issues involved in building design and construction which is energy efficient, climate conscious, resource conserving, for the well being of the occupants and productive for the functional needs. The course coverage of the concepts is essentially to appraise the participants about the knowledge; the exposure to the projects is to create a sense of conviction. Each session includes discussion on concepts to build a body of knowledge, supplemented by discussion on their practical aspects. There will be case studies built into the course to provide insights into projects implemented in the both the Government & private sectors.

Workshop CoordinatorsVirendra Kumar Paul has a Bachelor degree in Architecture and a Masters degree in Building Engineering Management.
