Florida Accreditation thanks the Florida Police Accreditation Coalition for their dedication and hard work in making this conference a success. We also thank the Naples Police Department, Lee County Pretrial, Lee County Sheriff’s Office, Ft. Myers Police Department and Collier County Sheriff’s Office for hosting the conference. The volunteers were greatly appreciated for their many hours dedicated to the conference. The Florida Corrections Accreditation Commission (FCAC) met on June 24, 2014 for facility reviews and to conduct general business. The main order of business was to grant reaccreditation to the Nassau County Sheriff’s Office, Orange County Pretrial Services Unit, Volusia County Pretrial Services, Alachua County Pretrial Services and Orange County Corrections Department. Broward County Sheriff’s Office Pretrial Services Division was awarded initial accreditation. The Standards Review and Interpretations Committee, chaired by Colonel Craig Aldrich, met on June 23, 2014 and recommended changes to FCAC standards. The Change Notice and updated Standards Manuals are on the website at www.flaccreditation.org. The Commission for Florida Law Enforcement Accreditation, Inc. (CFA) met on June 25, 2014 to review agencies for accredited status and conduct general business. The main order of business was to acknowledge the professionalism of agencies through granting accreditation. Florida Gulf Coast University Police Department, Hialeah Gardens Police Department and Naples Police Department were awarded initial accreditation. Agencies reaccredited by the Commission at this meeting were: Brooksville Police Department, Clermont Police Department, Daytona Beach Shores Department of Public Safety, Davie Police Department, DeLand Police Department, Highlands County Sheriff’s Office, Lauderhill Police Department, Miami-Dade Police Department, Ormond Beach Police Department, Panama City Police Department, Sumter County Sheriff’s Office, Temple Terrace Police Department and Winter Haven Police Department. Gulf Breeze Police Department, Margate Police Department, St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office and St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office was awarded reaccreditation by the Commission with recognition as an Excelsior Agency. The CFA Standards Review and Interpretations Committee met on June 24, 2014, chaired by Commissioner Deryl Loar, and made several recommendations for standards modifications to the Commission. The CFA Standards Change Notice is on the website, www.flaccreditation.org. This year continuous to be a busy year for the Florida Accreditation Office, during the June conference we had four agencies that were awarded initial accreditation and 25 agencies reaccredited. We will be considering 27 agencies for accreditation status at the October 2014 conference.

The FAO is still working tirelessly with the committee on the re-writing of the manuals. We are working on completing this task by October 2015. We thank you once again for your patience during this process.

We are consistently adding training opportunities to include New Assessor Orientation Training which was offered July 17-18, 2014 at the Punta Gorda Police Department. As well as Managing the Accreditation Process Training, August 6-7, 2014 at the Orange County Sheriff’s Office.

Chief Michelle Morris Sebastian Police Department

Chief Michelle Morris was born in Louisville, Kentucky and moved to Sebastian in 1984. She is a graduate of Vero Beach High School, Indian River State College with an Associate of Arts, Warner Southern College with a Bachelor of Arts, and the University of Central Florida with a Masters of Science. Chief Morris is also a graduate of the University of Louisville’s Southern Police Institute Administrative Officers Course, class #114. Chief Morris began her career with the Sebastian Police Department in 1987 starting as a patrol officer. During her tenure she has worked in various divisions to include: investigations, training, road patrol, professional standards and administration. Chief Morris was the agency’s accreditation manager from 2000-2009, completing the Sebastian Police Departments initial state accreditation and two reaccreditations before being appointed to the Chief’s position on June 25, 2009. She has served as an assessor and team leader for CFA for several years, participating in numerous mocks and onsite assessments.

Chief Morris and her husband Dane have been married for 22 years and are raising two teenage sons ages 16 and 19. Ryan is a junior at Sebastian River High School and Dane Jr. is a freshman at Indian River State College. Chief Morris is active in the Sebastian community, her children’s sporting and school events, and her church.

Captain Ross began his career with the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office in 1985 rising through the ranks as follows: Corporal 1988, Sergeant 1990, Lieutenant 2002, and was most recently promoted to Captain in 2007.

Captain Ross is a 1981 graduate of Port Huron High School in Port Huron, Michigan. He is an honor graduate of Northwood University with both Associate of Arts and Bachelor of Business Administration (Management) degrees. He is a Graduate of the Command Officers Development Course, Southern Police Institute/ Department of Justice Administration College of Arts and Sciences, University of Louisville.

Captain Ross is a Certified Jail Manager (CJM) with the American Jail Association and a Certified Corrections Manager (CCM) with the American Correctional Association. Certifications also include; Florida Model Jail Standards Inspector, Florida Corrections Accreditation Commission Assessor, American Correctional Association Auditor.

Captain Ross has received numerous awards and commendations throughout his career with the Sheriff’s Office.

Captain Ross has been married for 28 years and has four daughters.
