Faculty of ManagementBachelor of Management

“ The discipline and hard work ethic practiced in the classroom and the camaraderie I experienced outside of the classroom provided me with an excellent professional foundation. Balancing it all by taking classes such as ‘Exploring Creativity’ made my University of Lethbridge experience truly unforgettable.

Because of the relatively small student base at U of L, daily learning experiences are highlighted by opportunities to form relationships with professors and students across different faculties.

At U of L, I always felt I was more than a student with a numbered ID. To this day, I am fortunate to have life-long friendships with people I met at U of L, and I’m thankful for the mentorship I continued to receive from professors after I graduated.”

Do you have an aptitude for numbers? A keen eye for details?A desire for a financially rewarding career rich in opportunities for advancement?

Accountants today are central to the operations of an

organization, influencing all of its major decisions. Beyond being

able to quickly analyze and interpret facts and figures,

accountants require a high level of integrity, good problem-

solving and critical-thinking skills, the ability to work with others

at all levels of an organization, and strong communications skills.

Accounting is far more than ‘number crunching‘; in fact, computers

now handle many of the basic bookkeeping functions once tasked to

accountants. Even so, careers in accounting are best pursued by

people who are ‘good with numbers’.

As an accounting professional, you can work in accounting firms

or public/private organizations anywhere in the world.

Accounting is a key function in every organization, whether profit

or not-for-profit, multinational or local entrepreneurial start-up.

Canadian companies employ more than 1,000,000 accountants/

auditors, and demand continues to grow.

A career in accounting can be a fast-track to a high salary

and the top of your chosen field. Not surprisingly, though,

the field is highly competitive: there are more graduates

than articling positions.

Most entry-level accounting jobs require at least a Bachelor’s

Degree, and most accountants pursue a CA, CMA or CGA

professional designation after graduation. While some

accountants are generalists, many develop expertise within

a specific industry or area of specialization such as forensic

accounting, investment banking or tax auditing.

WhAT YoU’LL STUDY

As an Accounting major, you’ll study financial information,

tax, auditing, accounting theory and accounting standards.

You’ll also draw from fields such as finance, economics,

statistics, psychology, sociology, anthropology and marketing.

We work closely with the CA, CMA and CGA associations

to ensure you are well prepared to pursue any professional

designation.

Accountants and auditors ranked an astonishingly high fifth on Cnn.com’s list of the top 50 high-wage, high-growth occupations. (january 2007)
