Prepare yourself for a massive change.For people living with a disability and those who provide the services that make their lives easier, 1 July 2017 was highly significant.Because on that date, the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) commenced operation.As the NDIS rolls out around the country, it is bringing a total paradigm shift for the industry: instead of suppliers earning their funding from the Federal Government for the services provided as in the past, the new insurance scheme will instead pay individual end users directly to choose their own support.What this means is that the supply of disability services is now effectively an open market, with suppliers facing free competition – often for the first time – to survive.Apart from the inevitable problems that will come with this change, however, it also brings opportunity.Once it is fully rolled out in South Australia, we expect around 32,000 clients to join the NDIS (up from approximately 17,000 people with disability previously receiving funded support) and the market value will almost double commensurately, from approximately $760 million to $1.5 billion in the next three years.No matter how you view the coming of the NDIS, there is no getting around the fact that it will affect your business.That’s why Hood Sweeney has invested so much time and effort to understand the problems and opportunities, so you can not only survive the NDIS changes, but thrive on them.
