  • Good accommodation is of the greatest importance when studying atuniversity. At the University of Aberdeen, we guarantee all singleinternational students a single study bedroom in Universityaccommodation for at least your first year of study (provided theAccommodation Office receives your application no later than the27th August). The Student Accommodation Office is available tohelp you find accommodation within the University, in its two mainsites Hillhead and Crombie Johnston. All University residentialbuildings on the Old Aberdeen, Foresterhill and Hillhead campuseshave wireless access.

    What Will It Cost?As a guide, residence fees for a single study bedroom for the Academic Year2010-2011 are approximately as follows (precise details will be provided whenyou are sent details of how to apply for your accommodation):

    PaymentOn receiving an offer ofaccommodation from the University, adeposit of 200 must be paid. Theremaining rent is normally paid at thestart of each term.

  • University AccommodationAvailable for Single StudentsAll accommodation is in single studybedrooms, usually with a sharedbathroom. In some halls, two meals areprovided from Monday to Saturday,usually breakfast and dinner, withbrunch part breakfast, part lunch on Sundays (catered accommodation),whereas elsewhere students prepare alltheir own meals (self-cateringaccommodation). The majority of hallsare centrally heated and have manyfacilities, including computer rooms,laundries, games rooms and othercommon rooms, shops and snack bars,and sick bays. From the Hillhead sitethere is a frequent bus service to themain campus in Old Aberdeen and thecity centre.

    Catered accommodation will be offeredat Crombie-Johnston Hall which housesaround 400 students. These rooms arelet for 38 weeks but meals are providedfor 36 weeks. Self-cateringaccommodation will be offered atHillhead Halls, and also elsewhere on ornear the campus, are a number ofblocks of self-catering flats; each flathas 3-7 single study bedrooms, abathroom and kitchen. The majority ofthese rooms are let for 38 weeks (theacademic year, from September to June)or 50 weeks at Elphinstone Road andKings Hall.

    An effective administration and acomprehensive support structure areassured in all the halls. You will findfriendly help available from the HallManagers,Wardens and Sub-Wardens.TheWardens and Sub-Wardens aremembers of the University staff orsenior students, who will normally havebeen resident in halls during theirstudent days. They are there to helpand can be consulted in confidenceabout any academic, domestic orpersonal problems.

    What About AccommodationOutside the University?Students who prefer not to live inUniversity accommodation can findsuitable private accommodation butshould ensure that they arrive inAberdeen with plenty of time to lookround the accommodation available.     How Do I Book MyAccommodation?If you are an Undergraduate student, allyou have to do, once you have firmlyaccepted an unconditional orconditional offer of admission to theUniversity is apply online atwww.abdn.ac.uk/accommodation

    Postgraduate students will only beable to apply for accommodationonce you have firmly accepted anunconditional offer of admission tothe University.

    Applications should be made no laterthan 27th August for those coursesstarting in September, but every effortwill be made to accommodate lateapplicants although, by then, therecan be no guarantee of a placebeing available. If for some reason youare unable to arrange accommodationprior to your arrival in Aberdeen, timeyour arrival at the University withinoffice hours (1000 to 1600 hours,Monday to Friday) so that you canimmediately visit the StudentAccommodation Office in The Hub.

    Note: Before signing any agreementwith the University concerningaccommodation, read it carefully. Itwill not normally be possible torelease you from your agreementafter you have signed it.

    The Uni-box Student LifeMade SimpleBefore arriving in your Universityaccommodation, it is important thatyou make arrangements to purchasebedding and kitchen utensils, as noneare provided in the Halls. TheUniversity has teamed up with Uni-box,who supply kitchen, bedding and studypacks at competitive prices to suit yourbudget.     University VacationArrangementsStudents staying in cateredaccommodation are required to vacatetheir rooms during the Christmasvacation however, it is possible for youto store your belongings in your room.
